The FAF is definitely a fast powerful 8, with the 9 being just a slight power increase and a scoonch more moderate. Haven’t tried the RG yet, but I am going the opposite of you looking for a bit more moderate lighter blank.

Great reply Les. I got into BFS for inshore as the fish were gorging on small glass minnows and I couldn’t toss anything that small. I know, I could have used a spinner….. Got one of them new fangled reels and stepped down in rod weight and enjoyed the flex! I’m not in deeper water, so the drag and butt do the work. The spiral seems to work well for any tip up fishing, especially kayak o

I built the P700 spiral when the blank was released. Great little set up. Liked it enough that I built a P702(?) and CB702

The Diamondback blanks get a lot of love for how an ESN rod should be. Designed afterT&T Contact. Unk on how it compares to NFC

The 2wt has surprised me, significant low end power to go with the light tip. I haven’t used the 10’ 4 wt as much as I finished it last. Really a multipurpose blank for nymphs and streamers. Too early to pass judgement, but so far so good. Ymmv, I have only been nymph fishing a couple years. Glad to see all the options coming out. Maybe some more moderate rods n upper weights, even thou

Ordering 7 ft and one is 1/2 under, one on point, one 2” long all same model. Tip sizes were identical. Just as any FYI. Building for family so all performed to the purpose. My weights have all been close enough +- 5%. Just a kudos for bringing out the PSI fly blanks in lower wts. Very nice actions. I prefer a bit more moderate fly blank these days.

I use the small orings on blank, but an extra on, glue tip then position guides. Orings cut off as I wrap.

Definitely happens, I kept getting wrong guides from one of the big sponsors and called to be a pain. They sent someone to the warehouse to discover all the cerecoil had been stocked with standard recoils. I didn’t catch it at first due to poor worklight back then. And being old. Customer service was great, stuff just happens.

Thanks, that was/ is a great blank. My wife’s favorite spinner for trout. I always struggled finding blanks that would load easily and yet have junk in the trunk for redfish

Be interested in your thoughts on flex of the SJ vs the IS. I haven’t looked to see if cs is out for it.

I went down to 6lb varvivas braid on the Gek, but didn’t care for it. Much like using the sub 2 gram lures, you really have to pay attention. 8/10 suffix has been my go to. The different line lay on the Wolf is a bit overhyped, imho, but it is a great reel. On reels, the Curado is a great reel for the money. I also used a roro spool in a Zillion and it is very nice. I imagine if you have otherB

Just concurring with the comments about a bit more moderate action. The light to medlight CB blanks hit my sweet spot for inshore. I also enjoy glass or combo blanks. Especially in small streams. My first “bfs” rod was a Falcon Ultimate trout rod, which I loved. Either the reels got a lot better or just my disposable income did. I really like the Diawa Silver Wolf for all around use and the G

The P700 is a nice blank. The cB702 is also a good bfs blank. I like the added power of the 2/3 for inshore light lures. I haven’t tries the P702. I do like the P703

The 8wt is pretty fast to me, but the tip can get overwhelmed. I tried anadro on it and it felt soft. Ended up with HiViz flip 8wt, a +1 line short head. I didn’t have a 9wt grandslam or infinity to test with. Can’t help you on the 12. Have an 11 waiting on me to order parts

That is a good tip on the tip protection. My last few orders have all had tips that penetrated the paper stapled to the plastic wrapper. Despite what I thought was good packaging.

Couldn’t agree more. The glass is just nice fish. Same with IM6. Most of the rods out there are geared towards high performance. Sometimes it’s nice to just tool around in a comfortable old truck. A friend fishes the FAF 4 and considers it a 5. I would agree. Especially for in close.

If you compare the bend on the 5 / 6 weights of the two aeries, note the weights used are different.. A 5wt GB has slightly more power by CCS than a 6wt GA. Very different casting. The GB wants to be driven and the GA is a relaxed caster. Been waiting for a while ………. On a couple in the LMX series.

Epic had 50% off blanks last year for black friday. A ways off, but aa was said, the 690G and 590G are spectacular. The NFC Gamma Alpha is also very nice. Way softer than the Gamma Beta for presentation. I am a sale shopper these days

Great links. Not sure if they are new, but I didn’t realize you made the Judge in heavier SW weights. Dang you! :)

I d0 cerecoil 16-12-8 and 2’s to the tip for an 8. I like the smaller guides. The Fuji torzite SF also cast very nice on my 8/9 but rod tubes are @#$%& on them. I think they pass knots better than the snakes, which surprised me. I am no longer a distance caster

You could also test 3-5” spey type rear grips. It would probably give you plenty for a light rod if the balance and casting performance were to your liking.

Sorry for my old rambling, at least there wasn’t a cloud involved. No on request there. Have been on a number of smaller charters, but have a scheduled multi day on a large boat with “rail” fishing. I haven’t been on one of those since before it was illegal to keep Goliath.

Definitely clarify what water he is fishing there and his techniques. Last trip I nymphed in the rhododendrons and then used the NFC 4 wt glass and Gamma Alpha. All smaller water The GA is much more moderate and smooth casting to me than the GB or classic. I am going to order a couple rodgeeks blanks to try.
