Well that's excellent! I'll try to do that this evening. If it works out well and correlates strongly with how they were advertised, I'll probably buy a few more of these while they're inexpensive, cosmetic flaws in the blank don't really bother me if they are as hard to notice as what I've seen in the ones I've already got.
(Yes, I think I kinda like building rods.)

So after the first disaster, where the rod building part went fantastic until an outside force destroyed the rod, I waited until I found what I think was a deal to try again.
I bought a 5-piece @#$%& unsanded blank lot for about 17$ per blank. They are 82 7/8" long, 0.565" at the butt, and a 5.5 tip. Graphite, unsanded, and a "Medium Heavy" tag. Doing the "bend the tip

Well, this ended in disaster.
I was tying the very last guide, when an incident occurred and long story short, the last 10 3/8" of the tip broke off right at the second-to-last guide. I was so angry with all parties involved in the incident that I just had to get up and leave the building.
It still catches fish but it doesn't cast worth a damn, the line flows through the guides nicely

Found the reel I want to use, verified that it has a common spool lip size, and started with the Library article about the NGC method for spinning rods.
For my reels of the size I want to use with this rod, the spool lip is 38.5mm diameter. According to the article, that means that my choker guide should be 27*38.5mm as measured from the spool lip to the guide, or 1039.5mm up the rod. That's r

Russ,
I'm actually hunting a Daiwa 1000X or Regal D1000 to go on this rod. I have most all of the nn00X series and the nn0X series, but none of the Regal version. The only differences in a 1000X and the later D1000 is the Regal series is black instead of silver, and the anti-reverse is silent in a Regal D-series.
There are a few available right now on the big watery website, so I may wind u

Got out my guides today. I have:

1pc XBYTLG 10
1pc BVSLG 08

The matching tiptop for my blank
As soon as the epoxy on the handle sets and cures, I'll know the intersect point of the spool center and the rod. This is the "choke" right?

Only my second rod-the first got loaned out without my knowledge while I was out of town, and walked on by a toddler.
I often carry a short ultralight rod in my truck to go to those near-the-road creeks and sinkhole ponds in my area of the world. Since the reel got stepped on as well, I'll be doing the whole combo over again.
Schneider's Rod Shop had a very good deal on blanks and parts in

After doing some more reading and research, I agree. trying to rebuild this blank is not worth the trouble.
The hope is for a creek rod, so casting distances aren't going to be super long anyway, and bonus points if it fits across the back of the pickup cab in one piece. I plan on almost a fly-rod looking grip, approximately 5" of cork handle behind the reel seat.
I've found the MHX S6

Let me preface this:
I have never built a complete rod before. I have wrapped guides, repaired tip tops, and replaced broken-off tips in the past, and I have a rod wrapping jig that will hold single colors. I understand the processes.
Now,
I love going thrift-shop hunting for spinning reels and old fishing rods. I got sick of my plastic, non-repairable, spinning reels getting gritty or c
