I like those old school "drop" reel seats. I am refurbishing a cast aluminium one at the moment, fitted to a 4 sided solid glass blank.

Distance from spool Butt guide (AmTak A-frame Sz 30)-62.3cm 2nd (AmTak A-frame Sz 20)-90.3cm 3rd (AmTak A-frame Sz 10)-122.6cm Choker (AmTak Ringlock Fly Sz 8)-154cm Something IS wrong with your spacing; a bit of simple maths gives spacing: SZ30 to SZ20 is 28cm (90.3-62.3) SZ20 to SZ10 is 32.3cm (122.6-90.3cm) SZ10 to F8 is 31.4cm (154-122.6) The spaces / gaps are getting larger as

Your 2 KB's should be between the KW5.5 and the KT5's, not at the tip of the rod; they have a wider foot to cope with load in the mid section of the rod: KW10 KW5.5 KB5 KB5 KT5 KT5 KT5 KT5 KT5 KT5 KG5. More thread tension - are you finding the (taped in position I assume) guides are being pushed away by the thread? whcih then makes you wrap with less tension?

I like them too. Use them on some of my own rods Off hand a 10' 1-4oz for a Tranx, with a black NS7 seat. I hid the front and rear wraps under Japanse shrink, crouching dragon hidden real seat

Tape up MN40 MN25 MN16 MN10's. Should work just as well Total 8 guides: 8 + tip top or does the 8 incl the tip top? Just wondering. Pity this forum does not accomodated images within posts, would make it so much easier to explain visually

Colin, I dont use the table-edge method, especially not on rods as long as you have mentioned - you pull the whole reduction guide set up too close to the reel when using high framed guides like the KL-H Most will set it up to create a bullseye as per your option B. I have my own way based on doing it hundreds of times that is similar to the Option B, but is tweaked based on rod length

If you built the spinner with say 6 guides.... not it would not be so nice with a convench

Well, it will depend on how the spinner is set up. Lets say I used RV25 RV16 KW10M and then 6 (or even 7) running guides (KT's KW's LKW's) on a 10' 1-4oz and set it up for a Saragosa 6000 and 30lb braid, you would be hard pressed to get it to perform better with a more main-stream set up for a conventional reel

Fred Zimmermann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ...that can you can use a spinning reel or casting reel. > Yea, that had me thinking something was amiss. ------------------------------------------------------- Funnily enough, a well set up spinning rod with a layout along the lines of what Chris mentioned, will cast beautifully with a multiplier.

Thanks Jim. Off you go. Actually, no you can't, I like discussions like this with you. I'm buggering around with a rod for myself at the moment: 14'6 5-7oz, 60T carbon 3 piece blank. Propper casting machine. Right now its taped up with LC20 LC16 KW12 (x9) set up, all in Ti SiC (yes I know I can go smaller, but how do turn down a gift of 9x KW12's in Ti Sic and let them sit un-used in a cup

Denham, Try a layiout with and without the KW25. Will cost yo a couple of $ and some time. I love a KW30 KL20 set up for more rapid choking, but the KW20 is much lower and does not do well, the spacing needs to be too far apart for my liking Siomething I was advised to do many years ago, was to buy every size of KW, KL KL-H KT etc with a stash of the smaller sizes for running guides and then

Will be a superb set up, if you can't find KB7's, KT7's will be just fine

1. I was having a little fun with the 120lb braid comment. I thought the "plug at the bottom of the ocean" comment was a give-away that I actually agreed with you. 2. I do not fail to realise the difference in mono vs braid and how they behave. I may not be an old member on this forum, but I have done this before too, dont assume I haven't 3. Of course different brands behave differen

65lb wont winch a VW off the ocaen floor., it will however pull the plug out of the bottom You think 65lb is daft? Pfft try GT chasers who want to use 120lb braid with 300lb mono leaders. For goodness sakes. RV25 is lovely, but expensive. 6500 spool dia is 74mm and being a Daiwa, throws larger coils than a similar Shimano with their AR-C spool lip I disagree that 30 High is too large for

Bruce, 18" will not work. 30* is probably too close Inasmuch the blank itself plays a roll (how deeply into the butt it bends is important) you would do well to push out further I cannot imagine that the rod being set up with a 6500 spooled with 65lb braid it is limp wristed though.... A 6500 daiwa has a big spool (3" dia roughly) that is "tall" off the blank. I woul

That's what it's there for. Funny that, and so many builders try and avoid it.
