Pleased to see this topic, recently ordered components fer ma first rod build and everything went as smooth as a my Stradic. Couldn't agree more w/posts above. First time puttin a rod together and they were very helpful; knowledgeable and truly a pleasure to work with. They have competitive pricing and a good selection of mid-tier to top-of-the-line "stuff". I was a lil put off b

Phil, What a cool idea. Bruce, I had the same learning experience, i.e. not enough patience... Coulda done 1,000% better job if I had only had a lil more patience. It's my 1st build and I was excited to finally have the last of the parts delivered (took me 3-4 wk.s to get all the parts). That's my excuse, and I'm stickin to it! Take care Roger

Thanx y'all for all the info -- much appreciated. Gave my ego a boost, exactly what I thought: spine doesn't matter, curve/straightest-axis doesn't really effect performance, mostly an aesthetic kinda thing. I'm really startin to get a grasp of the theoretical side of rod building, the physical side though is a lot steeper of a learning curve than I ever imagined, especially if you have

Looking for blank recommendations, similar to the discontinued 1308t. Specs I found online: 8'6" two-piece, 12-30 lb. line, 1 1/2 - 4 oz. lure, moderately fast, heavy mooching rod. Thnx, take care and stay safe

Thanx fer the info, fellas. And thank you Norm for the kind offer and the excellent advice you gave me on reel seats. Re the reel seats; kinda went off the rails with that one -- just got tired of my indecisive-ness and went with an Alps MVT. Just spent what seemed like hours, reading thread after thread, amazingly educational & entertaining, tryin to figure out whether spinning guides

Recently came into possession of a Cabela's Predator 11 ft 2 1/4 lb. rod that I wanna tear down and rebuild using the Fuji KR System of guides. Anyone know what range of lure weights are appropriate for this rod? Thnx, Take care

John thanx fer the advice. Generally we dont get a lot of freezing weather here in Western Washington. Gonna check out the handle book from anglers resource, maybe that will help... if not, could always narrow down to a few choices and throw a dart! Thanx again for the advice, appreciate it so much. Im sure it's savin me significant time and money -- allowing more fishing by gettin those ho

Thank you all for your responses. Absolutely dumbstruck by how quick and excellent the replies are. Was hopin to hear from Norm... Been readin a lot of posts (as in 100s) and have always found Norms responses to be knowledgeable, concise & easy to understand. Still cant make up my mind on the rear grip & reel seat. I never, in my neck of the woods, at least that I can remember

Mark thanx fer the advice, very much appreciated. I have a casting rod w/ 13"+ rear grip which is just a scosh too long, wuz thinkin that spinning rods utilize a shorter grip? Part of my confusion is if I go with a larger reel seat there might be too much of a gap tween blank and seat. Fergot to mention that I'm debating on the VSS or DPS Fuji seats. At first I considered split grip

Hope y’all had a good Hallmark (Valentine’s) Day and are enjoying yer Presidents day off. Lookin fer sum advice, especially from any Salmon/Steelhead anglers, re: reel seat selection and rear grip length. . I was recently gifted a couple of blanks and am getting ready to open my wallet for my first build. Wanna “pull the trigger” on the handle/grips and guides but, due last minute second

Many thanks fer the replies. It's heartwarming that y'all are willing to take the time to share yer rod-building wisdom. My faith in the human race has (nearly) been restored! The scrap of masking tape on my mystery blank reads: “GSH 8 ½’ ” vice G1000. Guess I had a “senior moment". Darn short-term memory seems to be getting worse by the day… Tip size is 6 (

Thank fer the amazingly quick replies. I'm like a newborn as far as rodbuilding and this forum. This is one of the best forums I've ever seen! I'm in awe of the amount and quality of info shared here and the fact it is done by non-illiterate, polite adults. Simply incredible. Thank to all who've unselfishly shared their experience and knowledge Take care n stay safe

HAPPY NEW YEAR! A friend gave me a blank, which she knows absolutely nada about and I wuz wondering how I could identify it. I ordered a caliper to more accurately measure the butt/tip dia.s, not sure how much help that will be. Thinking that I'll probably hafta show the blank to a knowledgeable custom rod builder. Don't know any so could use some names -- someone who isn't too far fr
