I really like the 6'6" blank from RodGeeks. C266MLF and I have made quite a few for customers that use them specifically for crappie. Good luck.

Danny, I am here to 2nd Tom's comment. I have found that applying a thin coat of epoxy on the rod yields the best result. I primarily build on raw graphite rods so when there's just enough epoxy on the rod so that I can't see the bare rod that's the perfect amount. Lee

All, I have a customer that reached out to me asking to repair their rod that is broken about 12" down from the tip. I have read and understand the article by Ralph O'Quinn on the repair for this type of break. The only issue I have is that I don't have any broken fiberglass rods that can used to repair this broken rod. Is there any kind of supplier that you guys know of that sells small

Hello, I am trying to color match the G Loomis NRX thread color, have any of you matched this color before? If so, what thread did you use? It has proven to be a tricky color to match. Thanks, Lee

I have a request to build a large 10', 2 piece, MH casting, catfish rod. The reel will be a 6500 size casting reel. I'm currently looking at the MHX SU1208F-2 blank. Have any of you guys built on this blank before? It's listed as a Surf Rod. Also, what size guides you guys build for something like this? Would you go double foot the entire length of the rod? I'm used to building bass rods so I

Tom, I found some of those style paint pens you recommended and the results were much better. Thanks!

Tom, just to clarify, I'm not worried about who wrote the article or even upset at all that I ordered the wrong ones. You have pointed me in the right direction and I'll give the actual paint pens that dispense paint at the tip a shot. I appreciate the help!

Tom, You are exactly right! The article did say paint pens and I thought I purchased the correct kind. Are you referring to the paint pens that the tips will slightly depress and allow more ink to flow out of them?

I saw a recent article on variated thread designs while wrapping and I thought I would give it a try. I ordered faber-Castell pens but the ink soaks into the thread and doesn't stand out. What kind of pens have you guys used that have been successful? I'm attempting the "purple camo" kind of look. Thanks, Lee

You could try a CARBON 2 INSHORE SERIES - C2SW76MLF from Rod geeks and cut it to the right length. It's rated for 1/8 - 1/2 oz. Let's us know what you decided to go with and how it performs. Lee

I've used a C270MF (1/4 - 5/8oz) from Rodgeeks for drop shotting and it works really well. It's pretty lightweight, sensitive, and can throw the smaller weights as well. I've also used that same bushido blank and have liked it as well. I personally don't think you can go wrong with either. If you wanted something longer than 7' then you could also try their inshore series, they have 7'6" you

I built a frog rod for a customer that was a Rodgeeks B276HF cut to 7'3". They absolutely love it for frogs. I would recommend it as well.

Thanks for the input everyone! I'll try and get some weights and measurements off of it and see if I can find something close. I was hoping someone would know if that spiral x wrap is available to builders as well but it doesn't seem like it is. Thanks again!

A friend of mine recently purchased a Shimano Expride and really likes it. When he showed it to me, I was really surprised at just how light that thing is. Do any of you guys know where I might be able to find the same/really close Shimano Expride blank that I can build on? Thank you!

I use the same method mentioned by Voodoo Rods. It's worked great for me.

Mark, As Spencer and Michael stated, I meant conventional in terms of Cone of flight guide system. A poor choice of words on my part. The rod will be a spinning rod, not a casting rod. The 5' rod was a specific request by my friend. Thank you!

I have a friend that wants me to build him a 5' UL rod for trout. Normally this wouldn't be any problem, I'd put some KL-H/equivalent guides on there (16,8,5.5m, 5s) and wrap them all up. They however would like the REC recoil guides on there. The 1st one being a double foot guide and the rest being single foots. I'm assuming he'll be using a 1000 size reel. I haven't ever built a conventional st

Ancelmo, what size of glide baits do you typically throw on the SWB710 /12-25? What would you consider it's "bread and butter" for glide baits? Thanks, Lee

Theron, would you be concerned about throwing a 4 oz glide bait on that rod? It looks like the rating is up to 3oz.

All, A customer has requested me to build them a rod for throwing upto 4oz glide baits. Only problem is, I've never thrown a glide bait before. For those of you that throw them often, what are you looking for in a rod? What kind of blank would you recommend using for throwing some of these baits? Thank you! Lee
