Awesome!! Thanks guys. I will grab the ECSM and find a hidden thread but to put on it. Any other suggested threads you like would be great. Thanks

Is there a way to have hidden reel seat threads on the Fuji ECSM reel seat? If not, what is the closest reel seat to it that has hidden threads? Thanks. The Fuji gets rated so well by a lot of people, but I hate reel threads. Thanks All

Probably a rookie question, but I am a rookie.

Thanks a lot you all. You saved me a lot of money and helped me learn. Much appreciated. I am going to check out your suggestions and maybe order some of each to try on different rods. Sounds like there is really no right or wrong way to buy these. I am just going to have to dive in. THANK YOU ALL!

Mark, Kent, and Eric: Thank you so much, these ideas are what I was wanting to hear. I apologize for not giving more info. I know better in order to get accurate info. I am a freshwater only (Minnesota) bass fisherman. I use fluorocarbon, braided, and rarely mono lines. On my casting rods, I will use 12-20 pound fluoro for jigs and Texas rigs. I also use some 30 pound braid for pitchi

Lynn, I just looked for the video and couldn’t find it. I will look again, but I wrote it down when I heard it. He didn’t give much reason, just stated that is what he did. Being sponsored by Point Blank and Fuji, it peaked my interest.

I ordered 4 X-ray blanks and have to figure out the guides for them. I have an Mb 736, SJ 736, flip 766, and a SJ 732. I would like to make these decent feeling and light weight. I have read a ton and struggled to figure out the difference in guides. Is there a big difference between stainless and titanium, Alconite and sic? I guess I don’t want to have to waste money if there is no ne

Great advice fellas. I assume I can always add weight later to the butt of the rod?

Great advice and more to think about and play with. I can see how this hobby drops you down the proverbial rabbit hole!! I know this has been talked about a ton, but what guides do you find to work well and are light and firm enough to make a balanced and great rod. I fish for LM and SM bass. I use braid for some and fluoro for others if that makes a difference. Thanks again from th

Good points fellas. I definitely better take into account the technique and weight used. I know I won’t get it perfect, but thought I better think about that a little since I hear so much about it. Thanks!!

So in reading about rods and having fished different rods, the term “balance” comes up up a lot. “ The rod balances right in front of the reel seat”, “this rod is tip heavy”, etc. I would assume one of the big benefits of custom rod building is making sure your rod balances well. I would assume a builder could temporarily fit the components on a rod, attach a reel, and move the components

As a complete rookie and in my continued reading here trying to decide what components I need to order for some NFC blanks, I have a couple more questions. Do you all like carbon grips? I saw NFC has a sale on theirs and it looks like they are pre glued and just need to be reamed out to size, is that correct? If that is correct, what size do you recommend and what else does an idiot like me

Wow! Thanks a lot fellas. This is exactly what I was looking for. I really appreciate you taking the time to help a newbie out. I just did some reading on what those numbers relate to exactly. It appears that the IP is the power or stiffness of the rod and the AA relates to the action of the rod or where the tip bends (I.e. moderate, fast, extra fast, etc.). The higher the IP, the sti

Thanks guys for making me think deeper about this. Yes, I will be using these for bass. Mostly largemouth. I was thinking an MB 704 for the weightless flukes and Senkos and the 736 SJ for pitching flipping. I would be pitching in moderate milfoil cover, not matted vegetation. It does get fish wrapped up in the weeds and the fight is on. Most fish are in the 2-4 pound range with fis

First, I am brand new to rod building, so total idiot. I have been reading a lot and feel like a sponge, absorbing what I can. I also want to take advantage to some sales happening in the next month to grab a few blanks to supply my winter attempts at building. I want to try the NFC blanks and a Point Blank which seems to get rave reviews. They are easier to order with limited choices. So

That makes sense. A lot of retailers figure it in their prices and don’t show it as a separate cost to the consumer. This makes the product look cheaper at initial decision. Don’t get me wrong, it still looks like a pretty good deal if the NFC blanks are as good as I assume they are. I was just a little shocked when at checkout, my total jumped $55. Thanks for the info. You guys are great.

Good Evening all, I am brand new to rod building and am excited about getting started. I have been reading for a while, and the knowledge here has been very helpful with encouraging me to get started. I decided on a Mudhole complete start up kit with the 7’ mh rod. I hope this will be a good starting point. I look forward to jumping into this potential addiction and soaking up your knowle
