The guys in my club found out that I've started to build some rods, only three so far so I'm a total newbie. Some of the boys have asked me to replace a few guides and tips and such. I'm totally happy to do it. My question to you all is how do I match the existing type of guide? I understand sizing and color but what about ring material and brand. Hi guys, for a newbie,and by hand, are there pros or cons wrapping guides with the thread coming up from the bottom while rotating the blank away from you or down from the top rotating the blank towards you ?? Is it just preference?

Hi all ..
Ok , I built a casting rod , my first. I new in the beginning the blank might be a little soft for the application I wanted ( drop shot ) but built it any way . After finishing and fishing it I realize my guide placement is a bit off and maybe in conjunction with the soft blank sometimes I dont get the hook set I want ... 5. guide sizing
Hi all,, new builder here, only have a couple builds done .. What determines the size of the first and maybe second guide ( from the butt ) on a baitcaster ... Fresh water bass ,,, tatula ct or revo for reels... Is there a rule of thumb or could someone point me to some literature that might help me ???
