I am assuming the answer to my question is no it is not. I see a tip size of 4.4 on the 705 and 5.5 on the 735. Maybe I’m missing something Spencer?

Thanks for the reply Spencer, I did in fact check the site. I have found that many of the NFC numbers are wrong in my opinion. I simply want confirmation from NFC that the rod mandrel is the same but with 3 inches added to the butt.

Does anyone know if these blanks are simply 3 inch extensions of the 704, 705 and 706? I don’t want to carry both of these are built on the same specs with just 3 inches added to the butt. I hope this is the case. Thanks

Also really hard to beat the NFC mag bass 704 IM if you are willing to spend an extra 10 bucks per blank. Order 3 or more right now and get 75% off.

Tom you are correct. I am referring to the foam core with unfinished carbon skins.

I am looking to build a wade fishing spinning rod using size 17 sk2 seat and want to use carbon fiber grips. Does anyone have experience using the raw carbon fiber grips wade fishing salt water? I’m curious how they would hold up. They seem very porous and I’m not sure how they would do in a wade fishing scenario. Thoughts?

Thanks Roger, I think I will try to rig up something like you mentioned. I am using the Flexcoat 4x wall mounted drying system.

Unfortunately I can not always apply a second coat within a reasonable time. I can not leave it untouched and apply a second coat because I can often times clearly see small bits of dust or fuzzies, whatever they are called. I went through the linked post about the blue tape and I suppose that could be my problem. I use it very lightly to remove dust but will try something different moving fo

What’s your method of cleaning a section of epoxied surface before a second coat? My first coat almost always looks great and my second almost always has a couple of spots of contamination or fisheyes. I’ve used painters tape to try to remove dust and such but even that seems to leave a residue that I wipe clean with paper towels leading to more fuzzies.

I am looking for best practices when it comes to applying labels straight. I order my labels from decal connection and they go on with ease and look amazing. Very frustrating to spend the time on a rod and have a crooked label. My epoxy is level and covers perfectly. My only ask is how do you ensure you have the label perfectly in line. Really hoping “eyeballing” it is not the best method beca

I recently had a conversation with someone from the Flexcoat team as I was looking for a slip clutch to add to my alps power wrapper. After long conversation, I am considering making a switch to the Flexcoat system and selling my alps. I am hoping to hear from anyone who has used both and what and why you prefer one over the other. Thanks! David

IMO the SJ 703 is the best speckled trout blank out there. I have caught plenty of reds on it as well but would not purposely chase reds with it. I think the MB 736 is perfect for reds if targeting them specifically. Seems silly to me to call one rod a speck and red rod as reds fight so hard with a really tough mouth. With that said, if chasing both with one rod I would go with the SJ 703.. the

I have decided to go with the X Ray SB722 - I absolutely love the X-ray SJ 703 and would have gone with that but customer asking for something a bit longer. By using the comparator tool on rodhouse it appears these blanks have almost identical action and power. Not sure who recommended the rodhouse tool but I highly suggest checking it out if you haven’t already.

I’m sure this topic has been talked about but through the search could not find what I was looking for. I have heard great things about point blank but have never built on one. I am building a rod for a serious speckled trout guy and he is looking for a spinning rod in the 7’2” range that will be mostly used for light grubs and jerkbaits. I feel like the 7’3” ML point blank may be that per

Hi All, I recently moved to Phoenix AZ after living in south MS all of my life. As I prepare to start building rods again, I was curious what differences I should expect to see with building in such dry conditions. Has anyone found major differences with how epoxy acts from one climate to another? Thanks in advance! -David

Let me start by saying I understand that the following question is completely objective. I’m new to rod building. I have 5 rods under my belt and love it. I have spent hours upon hours searching blanks and researching everything rod building related. I know my favorite rod certainly wouldn’t be everyone else’s favorite rod but would still like to know what you like. For someone to say “THIS” i

Thanks for the input. I’ve decided to try the Revelation 842. I will also cut down to 6’8.75” to end up with a 6’9 as mentioned above. Looking at the specs, I’m not sure I can find a ECSM reel seat to fit . Looks like they make them down to a 9.5 size and I will need someone in 8.5 or smaller.

Hi All, Was hoping someone here has experience fishing/building for the south Texas speckled trout scene. I’ve not fished there but want to build a rod for a friend. Seems strange in that they seem to use pretty light action rods but are throwing pretty heavy baits such as Paul Brown Fat Boys. Does anyone have a recommendation as to a good blank to build on? Best, David

Thank you Ken, that’s right. I haven’t picked grips yet either. Plan to get my hands on the blanks and order reel seat, guides and grips together.

Hello All, I am new to rob building and have 2 Bushido CB72/8-15 blanks on the way. I am waiting for the blanks so I can get a measurement as to what exposed blank reel seat to order. Is there a standard length from butt to reel seat that is commonly used? Or do you normally feel the bare blank and decide what feels best and mount reel seat there? I have seen templates for guide placem
