Well, as it turns out I'm considering the spray paint techique. I just broke a rod today for a grand dtr and I'm sick about it, she picked the colors and at the time a particular mfr offered almost anything you could ask for in color. That's no longer the case. Kids and wives love color choices. Frankly, I do too and have built several Red/white/blue rods.

Well, sounds like some scuttle butt flying around. We're not talking about offshore fishing for sharks with 50 lb braid are we? Panfish and freshwater stuff, you're fine Sam.

From Mudhole website;
The system addresses coiling-memory issues with monofilament but it's ideal for braided lines
Me;
I've built several spinning rods with microwaves and like em, all with braid for the main line.

11. Re: Spline
I spend a lot more time over wrap color selection, reel seats and guide choices. To me the blank is going to change big time with bait selection for casting and spinning rods and even fly rods when that line hits the water. Everything gets heavier, a lot heavier.

I did grind the feet, enough to work. The singing I hear could be that I don't clean the line as often as I should. I'm getting better at that. I like the guides.
Re-reading this thread I see that the OP was interested in 7/8 wt rods. My next build at those wts will have a stripper, with 1 reduction guide, then all running guides the same size.

Heavy, RSFX. I purchased the lighter ones but REC recommended them to be used on 4wt or less.
Senior moment above. The 6 wt was my first fly rod to build and it has snakes. If building a 6wt today I'd use the RSFX single foot guides. The 5 wts have the single foot RSFX REC guides. The 3 and 4 wt have RSF single foot guides.

The last 5 fly rods I have built, 1-6 wt, 2-5 wts, 1-4 wt and 1- 3wt have all had the 1 stripper guide then I ran all #1 single foot guides the rest of the way. All REC recoils

I'm conservative and so is my family, these colors won't be overstated or gaudy at all. I don't overwhelm the rod with wraps, the more simple the more beautiful. Blue/yellow with red trim is getting a look but I also have another idea or two and will update when decided. Lots of options.
Ukraine? My only thoughts about that is the possibility of a future draft, which would involve my grand

Good point! I have built him a spinning rod in his school colors. Another reason I look for RodGeeks to bring back their color selections.

Youi're correct, I can't go wrong. I just looked at my thread box again and I have quite a stash. Building grand dtrs rods and 3 other grand sons has broadened my color selection. The girls are much better at picking colors than am I.

Grandson's 11th birthday next month. Through the Cub scouts he's started fly fishing (and tying!) and loves it. I've ordered an 8' 3 wt, color of slate. I've built 3 fly rods and all 3 have been slate, 2 I used Garnet and a little silver metallic trim piece. One I used black with non-metallic silver trim. All look fantastic. But, without asking him at this point I'm thinking out of the box.

Robert I always warm my shop up to work with epoxy, or wrapping guides for that matter. Any gluing I do the shop is warmed to at least 70-75 d. I have plenty of time to coat guides and rod handle and rod specs I have written on rod when working with well mixed epoxy on aluminum foil. 20 minutes easy from when I start mixing.

After thoroughly mixing I then pour epoxy on aluminum foil and use my breath to release/remove bubbles. I never use a flame. Love me some flex coat.

I'm very disappointed in RodGeeks decision to drop the color options. School colors, patriotic colors are now limited. Quality rod blanks are common, custom colors not at all.

My understanding is RodGeeks uses old St Croix mfr equipment in Mexico. Made in USA St Croix blanks in Wisconsin. I build a spinning rod from a St Croix blank couple of months ago for a Navy bud in Florida. He loves it.

My Grand kids and all the girls in my family love painted blanks. From pink/black, red white and blue, to red and black metallic to blue and teal, purple/lavender and on and on. Be careful with epoxy, it'll be a bugger to get off if left to dry on a painted surface. Heat may help to remove.

I started building rods late, just 2 years ago. I've learned almost everything I know from this web site with helpful and great people. The thing that bothered me the most was getting fancy wraps for my first builds, which were for grand children. Trying to add foo foo was and still is difficult for me after 20+ builds. Trim bands are a PITA to me and I'm slowly getting the hang of it and it
