I had a carbon fiber grip with the same uneven end. I used a socket similar in diameter to the trim ring in a vise and just pushed down on the grip gently on the part that was raised. The foam is pretty soft and will compress very easy . You can judge how flush it sit using the socket as a guide. The carbon fiber will loosen enough the put the trim ring flush. It worked well for me.

On matching reel seat to blank can be a reference to exposed casting seats that come in different I.d.’s that would be sized close to o.d of blank ,then reel seat would be reamed to fit blank if necessary to fit blank snug without a gap at the point where reel seat would be mounted. If using a decorative insert it would match I.d. of exposed reel seat then an arbor is used and reamed to fi

21. Rods as tools
What a coincidence seeing this article & picture of modified Redfin. I wanted a travel rod and just built a MHX TR904-3. As I played with it I thought I would be nice for redfins & light tins for Long Island sound Stripers & false albacore so extended to 8’ (no more warrant). Yes it is loud,on a low setting its better. The sound is from the motor itself. I put a little grease on the gears & made no difference. Hard to access the motor to lubricate & didn’t want to mess with it any further.

I have some closed cell foam the kind ,used for fly poppers in 1 1/2&21/4 in. diam. Has anyone used these for grips? It's slightly softer than eva, just wondering if it's worth using. The colors are pink & purple which are hard to find ,i want to use them on my daughters rod, really not my rod ,lol

After reading what Cliff wrote ,i remember the last time i used flex coat cp it seemed very thick so i thinned by 1/3 with water and it became granular,so i thinned it more and it was worse.I thought it was a bad batch but now i realize it was the water.Iknow flex coat recommends water, next time i'll try acetone or denatured alcohol, thanks for info.
