Just wondering what you guys think of Pac Bay snake guides... Picked up a set in tigray and black - both light wire. For the most part I'm pretty pleased with them so far. Only exception is one of the tigray guides has an area where the chrome base is showing through the tigray finish, almost like it's chipped off.
I'm curious how the tigray and black finishes will hold up over time.

Norman, I've always used epoxy on my wraps. A friend of mine who builds in a very traditional manner said I should try varnish. After a couple test wraps I liked the way the varnish came out so I figured I'd give it a try on this build.

Thanks, Roger. I was planning on using man o war the whole way. I was just curious is all.
Tom, the varnish is new. I bought this quart a month or so ago.

Is it possible to put thread master epoxy over man o war spar varnish? Any issues with adhesion or separation between the two?

I've built two Winston rods; B-III Plus 7wt which is an absolute powerhouse and a B-III SX 5wt which is a little stiff for my liking but a nice rod regardless.
Haven't built on any other Winston blanks because fiberglass became my main focus.

Mark, sadly the blank is painted. I was thinking something along the same lines though.
Anyways, the verdict is in - my friend said to leave it "it adds character".
Thanks for all the replies and ideas, I'll remember them for future builds.

The blemish is about halfway between the stripping guide and the first snake guide.

Thanks for the replies. I thought about the wrap idea but I'm afraid it'll look funny.
Maybe like Roger said I'll do a blended wrap. I'm thinking black thread with a few thin coats of spar might blend into the gloss black blank nicely.
I was also thinking about adding a guide to the area to make it more "natural" looking. Would adding a guide harm anything?

Hi all - long time lurker, first time posting here. I've learned a lot from the site and was hoping I could get some input on an issue I'm having with a current build.
I'm building a 6'6" 2 weight fiberglass rod for a friend and on the butt section there's a blemish that appears to be underneath the clear coat. Looks like there was a piece of tape that when removed it left some adhesive
