Herb,
Unhid my email now. I know we had corresponded previously about me picking up the blank from you as the US distributor of sorts. Funds didn't work out then, which I apologize for. But from this sale, I got the blank for $100 shipped, which is slightly less than we had previously discussed, so I decided to just jump on it while I could.

Awesome. Ordered up the Air blank I've had my eye on for a while. 6'6", 2-4kg, 3/16-1/2oz, in P2000 finish. Can't wait to build this as my high end summer rod!
Now I just need somebody to do a sale on some titanium torzites...haha.
Thanks!

I just built one ice rod for Lake Trout, and I'm about to finish up another. They're a bit heavier than what you're probably looking to build, but figure I'll chime in anyways so you get the upper end of the range haha.
First one was ~38" long, used a tip section from a 2 piece rod my dad broke in the handle section as the blank. I plan on pairing it up with a Daiwa Fuego 1000 reel. For

This spring I decided to challenge myself to using 100% artificial baits for a full year. Targeting walleyes and panfish mostly, 90+% of my fishing previously had been done using 1/6-3/8oz ball head jigs, or a 1/32oz jig under a bobber, tipped with a minnow, leech, or worm. Although the challenge could have been kept fairly simple and focused by using only a handful of artificial analogs of those

Hmm. Good suggestion Bill, thanks. That would definitely work for the checks against the fig

Thanks guys, but I'm looking to keep it as simple as possible with the dimpled aluminum checks I've already got as the only "flair" on the rod. No decorative wraps and simple wraps for the guides. That being said, sounds like using paste which and smoothing it out like you say Michael could work with what I've got. Planning on trying to get these couple of rods finished up in the next w

Hey All,
Looking for a bit of input regarding some winding check finishing on one of my first builds. It's an ice fishing rod being built on the MHX CIB-36MH-MHX blank, intended for use as a Lake Trout ice rod. For this rod, I decided to go "all out" with a carbon fiber split handle setup. The grip components I used are as follows, all ordered from Mudhole, listed from the butt forwa

Thanks Dan.
On most ice rods I would agree with using a fly type guide, but with using braid and the ability of lake trout to go on some impressive runs, I definitely want to stick with a ceramic insert for this build. I do fish inside a popup shelter with a heater, so icing isn't usually a big deal. It's mostly the fact I've just had some 30 below days where my heater can't quite keep up and

Thanks Roger, I was assuming it was probably okay, just wanted to make sure and also get input on how people deal with it.
Going off of your suggestion, once you have the tip wrapped to fit the tube better, do you still use tip adhesive on the part of the wrap that will be inside the tube, and does that penetrate the threads fine and secure it to the blank? Or do you do something like a light

Hi all,
I've been lurking here for a short while, gathering plenty of info on the A to Z's of rod building, as I just got a beginner's start-up tool/supply kit and I'm planning on getting my feet wet over the upcoming winter season. So far I have learned a ton, so thanks to all the experienced builders on here, as well as past newbies like myself that have already asked a majority of the quest
