Thanks for checking. It is a surprisingly light blank considering the dimensions.

That's what I was thinking. Just not sure how to figure out an appropriate lure weight for it.

Hello, I recently purchased several vintage rod blanks from an online seller. Included was an unmarked glass blank. I am hoping someone may be able to help me determine a possible brand and use. It is a 7'6" 2 piece glass blank weighing 2.3 oz. with a tip-over-butt ferrule. The male ferrule has a rubber ferrule plug. The butt section measures approximately .70" and the tip is a si

Hello, I recently purchased a bulk of older rod blanks, multiple makers. Included were a couple of Fisher blanks. A google search is not coming up with anything on the specific model numbers. I'm hoping someone could help me identify them. I believe some of them may be fly rod blanks. X28920 2pc spigot ferrule X20108 2 pc spigot ferrule Fisher 5064 boat rod? Thank you in advance

All of my rods are stored/transported in rod socks and tubes. Both of these rods were well cared for, did not take any hard use/negligent damage. More importantly, both of these rods had less than 10 days of fishing on them before they failed. I did a Google search and found several other discussion forums in which people had the same issues with Kigan guides. I received a response from St Cro

Just wanted to share my recent experience with everyone. This is not a rod building post, but does concern components. I have had two separate St Croix factory rods lose ceramic inserts in the past several months. The first, mojo inshore, lost the tip top insert sending a $15 x-rap into the ocean. The second, one of their Premium rods, experienced a cracked tip top and lost the insert on the s

I never thought to ask retailers about broken/damaged rods. Thanks I'll give that a shot. Maybe I'm getting too particular thinking the repair piece needs to be from a "high end" manufacturer?

Thanks everyone for the help. I think I will try to sleeve the damage with a short section of blank, then wrap it to match my guides. Any suggestions on where to purchase a donor blank that won't cost an arm and a leg?

Damage is in the butt section, 26" up from the end of the fighting butt. O.D. at the burn is approximately 1-5/16ths inches. The old Loomis gl3 blanks don't have a clear coat finish like newer blanks, it's just the bare material.

I have attempted to post photos of the damage I will describe below, but they are not uploading. This is the same 13 wt fly rod I proposed repurposing into a spinning rod. The damage is a friction burn caused when I jerry rigged the blank in my cork lathe to reshape the handle. I used a rubber band over a cloth to apply downward pressure because the blank kept jumping out of the cradle. (No

I would really prefer to repair it, I'm just not sure the best way to do it. It would be easier for those of you with experience to help me if I posted a pic of the damage. (Probably should have done that in the first place). The damage is currently overwrapped with thread, spanning about an inch either side of the burn. I will go ahead and take the wraps off and post a pic. I'm new to the forums

Yes, without going into too much detail; I basically burned through about 50% of the skin of the blank in one portion. Kind of like a second degree burn on your arm. It was caused by friction when I jerry rigged the blank in my cork lathe to reshape the handle.

Thanks everyone for the input. I would love to be able to find a replacement butt section and keep this as a fly rod, but it is highly unlikely. I will probably start this project in the winter, when fishing slows down here in Texas. I'm thinking it will be the equivalent of a medium heavy spinning rod once completed.

Some of you may have come across my previous post about a damaged fly rod blank. I know that lighter fly rod blanks can be used to make fine ultra light spinning rods. What about the heavier ones? The damage on my blank (13 wt Loomis) is in just the right spot for a spinning reel seat if I repurposed it as a 9' surf/salmon rod. I have seen several tarpon fishermen here on the Texas coast using 9

I built this rod back in the early 2000's. I recently damaged the butt section above the cork. Pretty sure it won't handle a fish at this point. Loomis no longer makes these blanks/rods. Does anyone have, or know of, one of these rods they're willing to sell? I only need the butt section, so damaged broken tips are not an issue. Thanks.
