So, the same happened. A year ago I started a thread concerning CTS Crystalcoat yellowing on my rod. Linked pics don't work now, but the rod is a CTS custom white blank, with Fuji NOCP wrap. You could imagine, white blank and white wrap, any hints of yellow would be obvious but CTS claimed their stuffs do not yellow, and some members, reviews, agreed about that as well, so I am curious. So I am probably going to have a trip coming this summer or autumn. Friends who visited there last year told to use nymphing method which produced much more fish than dry flies, and nymphing rod of about 3wt 10ft was suggested. Without ever doing nymphing before, so I need a new rod. I build my rods these days, so a blank. Nymphing isn't going to see much use locally, so it is mainly fo

Do you know where I can purchase or who still makes these components of detachable fighting butt for bamboo fly rods? A complete set of reelseat, end cap, detachable tube, and rubber button? Like this one: Thanks

Decided to get a hollow build blank (which is said to fasten the original taper a bit), for a 5 / 6wt rod. Fishing 5wt line when it calls for delicate trout presentation taper, and 6wt line when it calls for more aggressive taper lines for wets and smaller streamers (all modern plastic flylines, think a 5wt Rio Perception, 6wt Rio Smallmouth Bass line, 6wt SA Mastery Trout, etc...) I narr

Any other quality and well priced sources / makers of bamboo blank you would suggest? And about how much a 3pc 2tip 8" blank should be? I saw Proof at $750, some are a bit lower at ~650. 2pc blanks are much cheaper but too bad I'd prefer 3pc for the ease of travel....... Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for all the replies. And no, I did not grind the guides feet. The first pic looks more normal, where the thicker part of the Crystalcoat around the feel looks more yellow. This is what I would expect, thicker epoxy > more yellow. But when you look at the second picture, the ferrule wraps. The yellowing looks more like rusting mark, signifiantly uneven. And the yellowing

I read from previous comments that the CTS Crystalcoat does not yellow. Is that true, after some time like a year and more? I was under this impression, according the reviews and comments I read, so I built a rod and finished in Oct 2019, which CTS white colour blank, Fuji NOCP white thread, and CTS Crystalcoat. I finished very nicely at first, no yellowing at all. But after a year, I notic

Clear coat for custom paint reel seat? I read that only automotive grade paint has surface hard enough for clear coat (for painting reel seat, reel, etc...). But when I look for it there are lots of automotive grade clear coat, for car body, wheel, engine, brake, etc......I read that people use this Dupli Color Perfect Match clear coat (designed for car body) but I cannot find it. I can find t

I have some fly rods from 3wt to 12wt.....But I think a 8wt blank would be too powerful for my need. Your cast weight might be spot on, but a 8wt blank almost equal to a 20lb rod blank if u ask me, while I am looking at only 2~8lb blank. I think it is around the 3wt~4wt area. Just need a fast enough 3~4wt which is not noodle.

I was actually looking at the Affinity X 376 4pc as an option, or the Affinity M 380 4pc. What do you think? Have you built them into spinning rod before? I am just not sure if their 3wt are fast/strong enough in the lower section as blanks vary. Eg. A Sage One 3wt would probably be powerful enough while a Sage Circa 3wt would be noodle. Thanks.

Ok forgot to mention. 4 pc. I had build CTS MagElite 4pc (which were not on their online catalog ) The blank was nice but a bit too fast and stiff for my liking. Also, they tend to have thicker tip and thinner butt which makes the blank tip heavy. If their designs are having thinner tip and thicker butt then it would have better balance itself, without needing to use some butt cap weight to ba

Looking for top end multi pieces blank what options are available ? A 7~8ft, 2~8lb, 2~10g which is going to be paired with a 2000size 190g reel. Top end being light weight and sensitive in the Daiwa SVF Compile X standard. Fly blank could be an easy option but I doubt the thicker tip would be sensitive enough for bottom contact techs....???? Thanks.

Thanks Norm. Just see your reply after I posted the above reply. I'll try your setting tomorrow and let you know. 11 23.5 37.5 53 70 89 110 133 159 188 - KL5.5L choke 220 - KL7M 256 - KL10H 297 - KL20H So you take the KL5.5L as choker, even with a 4 reduction guides train? I thought the choker would be the next KT5, which is the one in your 159mm position. I t

This is what I got from using Fuji's suggestion for a 4 reduction train on 11ft seabass rod. Stripper 20H -- 40cm -- 10H -- 32cm -- 7M -- 27.5cm -- 5.5L -- 23cm -- choker I placed them on the table edge, with the 10H and 7M being a bit shorter to the edge, so the train is a bit a concave than a straight line, would this be ok? Then, the next question is that, from my original setting

None of the above stated distances was measured from those. The CTS figures I stated were measuring from the rod tip top.

Some follow up, and need some advice. So I ended up getting a 4 reduction train, KL20H, 10H, 7M, and 5.5L, then 9 KT5 as runnings. Again, here is the CTS guide placement suggestions: From top to stripper, 13 guides in total, distance in mm: 125, 268, 428, 607, 803, 1017, 1245, 1487, 1743, 2016, 2314, 2638, 2988 When I use 4 guides reduction train now (instead of 3), shall I pl

I am going to use 12lb mono mainline when fishing float and bait, and probably switch to PE for soft plastic lures. Which train would be better? Stripper KL 25H or 20H? Cheers.

I source them online from Asia Norm. The IG colour is rare. They have the KT and I have been waiting for 3 months for them to have the KL in stock. Still, they don't have KB. I can't even find the IGKBSG in Japan.......I wonder how often do Fuji produce them. It seems they only make the IG for special order.....

Thank you very much for the detailed replies and info. I asked the store where I source guides today, he actually suggested me a 4 guides train, which is actually one of the combinations on anglersresource, KL-H 25, 12, 7M, 6L. Then 9 KT 5 as running guides. The problem is that he doesn't stock the gold colour belly guide I want, the IGKBSG. He only has the KL-H and KT in gold (IG) colour.

I am going to build a CTS float blank, 13’ 4~8lb, but using 2500 size Daiwa spinning reel and not centerpin. 1. I am going to use mono and braid line, is it OK to use KR guide concept? As I would like to try the KR setting. (Read somewhere that KR is only for braid?) 2. I looked for Fuji KR guide placing charts as well as KR GPS. But what I found the spacing recommendation is only

I am going to build a 13' 4~8lb float rod (CTS Affinity Float blank) for spinning reel use, not centerpin. I am looking for good gold colour single foot guides (either gold frame or ring). What options are available ? I checked Fuji did some in the past but seems they do not make gold colour for their newer K guides. ???? Furthermore, where could I find guide spacing and sizing for 13' bla

Hi, I am going to build a baitcast rod. I checked Fuji recommendation is two bigger stripper guides, then all running guides of the same size. eg. For 6.6ft rod: KW10, KW5.5, then 3 x KB4.5 and 4 x KT4.5.....so the running guides are all 4.5 size. While I measure the guides of some of my baitcast rods, the running guides sizes decrease gradually. eg. Maybe a 12, a 10, an 8, two 6, tw

As title, , if I decide to turn the handle myself for spey rod, is tail stock neccessary ? I have the ALPS Power wrapper, which could be added the ALPS tail stock (another $165, quite expensive ) I know the tail stock is used to hold the other end of the mandrel / blank. But I check the Mudhole video and they turned handles on the "RBS handle turning kit" which the mandrel is

Thanks. Because on the Swimbait rod with the LCSG #16 as stripper I only need to cast maybe 30~50m while for the 14' surf rod I aim to cast maybe 80m and further. Not sure if bigger guide/bigger ring helps. The 20 has bigger ring but I think it is a bit too tall.
