I use dental floss on ice rods. I tried the orthodontist bands but they weren't tight enough on the small dia. rods.

I've been having good luck using dental floss, you can get them on good and tight. And you can unwrap them a little at a time as you go up the guide foot.

I take a larger dowel and drill a hole in it the size of the tip of the rod I'm trying to wrap.Support the dowel on one of your supports and slide the tip in the dowel to hold the rod in place. This works good for the last few guides, but for a tip top guide you just have to support it as close to the end as you can. There are supports out there just Google tip supports.

I know most people use denatured alcohol in an alcohol burner.
I saw some people were using Heet gas additive instead.
I was wondering if anyone used heet and if so how did it work?
It's fairly inexpensive and comes in an ez pour bottle.

I'm working on a couple of ice rods and would like to use Red Copper Metallic ProWrap as the main guide wrap on a black blank. I'm wondering what colors would be a good choice for a trim band color.Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Ryan and Jay for the good info.
I am currently working on two rods now using @#$%& blanks. I made 2 rods with Janns Netcraft micro lite blanks that turned out ok but were a little to light (action) for me.
