I'm a novice rod builder and I am 69 years old, I have never been surf fishing and I'm a RV owner traveling primarily in the southeast with a home base in South Carolina. My dilemma is I know so little about surf fishing I don't know where to start! Length, power, brand. I'm looking at Rodgeeks, Rainshadow, or North Fork. Any other suggestions? TIA LOVE

Roger, I don't have a permanent rod building area. I use the kitchen table for now so everything has to be portable. If/when I get a spot where I can set up for good I'll get the 4 ft LEDs as you suggest. I have gone to LEDs pretty much throughout the house now and it really helps my old eyes. Don't the halogen bulbs put off a good bit of heat?

I thought it was appropriate for this time. Sorry, Won't happen again. Why was it inappropriate if I may ask? It was trying to support our smaller businesses listed in the sponsors on the left.

I bought it from a local hardware company for about $12-13. Amazon/Walmart was higher. I'm trying to buy local even if it cost a little more now to help out our local economy. Small businesses are going to need ALL THE HELP we can give them now if they are to survive. It is a Feit Electric model #C8/840/LED. The big drawback was it was made in China so buying made in the USA can be difficult.

I use a desk lamp with a magnifier built-in. The one I had would not reach all the areas I needed it to so I ordered another one. Well, I was pleased with the magnifier, but the fluorescent tube output was pitiful. I had replaced the bulb in the first lamp with an LED and it was SO much brighter. I finally broke down and took apart the head and saw the brand I used for a replacement. I picked up

Thanks, Lance, I always do. I was just curious as to what it meant in their literature. I emailed NF composites and have not had a reply yet.

I need advice from more experienced folks than I have. I have noticed some pretty severe bleed thru (in my opinion) on the foot area on one of my wrapped guides. While I can see a little thru on pretty much all of the guides it is really nasty on the stripper foot. I ground the leading edges of the feet and used a permanent black marker to color the bared foot then wrapped with Fishhawk nylon. I

Norman, that is so Ironic you say this. I did all three rods at the same time with the same batch of finish. Same time, same method and steps, Quite different results. This is what is confusing me. One of the rods is still tacky after 2 days. The other 2 are cured completely. I LOVE how clear the finish is, but if I can't get this figured out have consistent results the CTS is going in the trash

If the federal tax is collected one time on the blank does it need to be charged the second time when finished?

OK, I went to finish the rod I built for my friend that had clouded up when I test fished it. I put it in the bathroom with aux heat and set it on the dryer ( room was at 102+ degrees) to make it set up as much as possible. After 3 days I recoated the decorative wrap and put it back in the heated room. I had bought a decal to put on the rod before I present the rod to my friend. so I put a coat o

Ben Belote, I was getting hung up on snags a lot, how did you know? I have put the rod in a heated room to help dry the threads. How to prevent thi from happening again on this rod? Do I recoat the wraps after the blush clears? Thanks, everyone for your help.

I made a rod to give to a friend that has done me a lot of favors, but before giving it to him I wanted to test it out. After fishing with it a while I notice some of the finish on guide wraps turning a milky white. Not all of them just a few. I had applied 3 coats and waited 48 hours between coats. The last time I mixed it by volume, but I had also mixed the finish by weight on the first coat. B

I plan on using these as a "bream buster" most of the time for panfish and occasionally casting jigs for shad. I use both thread style and rubber bobber stops with a bead. Thanks for the suggestion on the closed face underspin. I ordered the guides today starting with the 16 working down to 5s.

I'm in process of ordering a 10 ft and a 12 ft crappie blank. I plan on ordering Fuji Alconite guide set BYAG 309 which includes 30J, 16J, 10J, 8J, two 7J, and three 6J guides. According to Fuji his should be able to do a 9 ft rod. By my feeble math I should add three 6J guides for the 10 ft and nine 6J for the 12 ft. plus the tip tops. Please someone with more experience check behind me for err
