I have build a few BFS rods on Phenix MF711, TX-713ML, NFC FW-701, Rainshadow Immortal IMMP70UL-TC for trout/crappy fishing. Phenix MF711-1 and NCF FW-701 are great for atomic 1/32oz jigs, trout magnets and Notorious jigs. TX-713ML is a little stiff, so I used it for 2g to 7g spoons. I should get the TX-712 instead. I have tried these rods with BSF reels such as Daiwa Steez Air, Daiwa Gekka

Hi Dan, Using size 30 with size 6000/8000 real, when the line rotate to the outer edge of the reel, the line forced to have sharp angle through the ring. But with size 40, the line flow much better through the ring and create less friction. This is the first time I building a boat rod using spinning reel. For conventional reel, I can go with size 20 Fuji MN guide or one size smaller as the

First time building a 7'2" boat rod for spinning reel. This is a jigging rod mainly targets for Ling Cod, Rock Fish, Halibut, small size Tuna and Albacore. The reel size is between 6000 and 8000. Briaded line size is 50# First stripping guide is size 40 (Fuji MN) and about 21" from the face of the reel. Then followed by 30, 25, 20, 16, 10, 10 10. Total 8 guides. Distant from the f

Hi Mark, Love your custom grip. I have a question, how do you trim off both ends? I don't have much success on closing both ends. After covering with the carbon sleeve, I ended up getting uneven ends, and sometime the sleeve just popup from the form core after the cut. Putting on a winding check or butt cap helps a little, but the gap is visible. Not perfect. I am using the Mudhole CFX L

Which Seaguide running guide is equivalent to the Fuji KT5 and KB5? Is KB5 or KT5 = 5mm in height? I plan to use it on my 7 ft casting rod.

I am building a 5 wt rod from a Rainshadow Eternity blank. I mainly using it for trout. My question is what tip should I get? Standard or Large Loop? Also, I will be putting a carbon grip with a cutout of 0.865", but my Rec ABS reel seat is 0.65 (OD). Can I have to wrap some masking tapes on the reel seat to fit the cutout?

I bought 2 X 10 ft (2 pieces) surf blanks, and planning for using it with conventional reels. The butt guide size is 16 (Fuji MN guide). I just want to know what is the recommended distance from center of the reel seat to butt guide? The conventional reels I am using with these surf rods is either Abu Garcia 7000 or Revo Rocket with 20 pound braid line. I mainly use these rods for Striper, Sur

Hi Herb, To be honest, when I post the question, I just want to get some feedbacks or suggestions whether I am in the right direction of using the correct guide train and size and type. However, your explanation involved in line, reel and guide types. It is a lot to learn. Then, I went to read the KR concept information last night that Norman provided me and I start to realize your explanat

Hi Herb, 20 pounder braid line works for me. Lighter is better and hold more capacity. I like it. Thanks, Johnny

Mostly rocky shorelines and sometime sandy beaches depend on where the fish has gone. Occasionally I do get some snags. For stripper bass, I use top water lures.

Hi Herb, Which brand would you recommend for braid line? I am thinking of getting the PowerPro. For the ULTC145500, I plan to use 30 pound braid line and may be 50 pound for ULTC1414000. Johnny

Hi Herb, After hearing the good thing about RV guide, it really tempts me to try it. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to have two RV guides on the same blank. It is good to know the braid line performs well on KL25H - KL10H - KL5.5M guide train as compare to RV guides. Thank for sharing your expertise and knowledge. I still have a lot to learn. I will definitely tag you again if I have mo

Hi Norman, That's make sense. I was thinking that too. It is a good idea putting more 30 pound braid line instead of 15 or 20 pound mono. Thanks, Johnny

Hi Mark, Thanks for the advice. I would rather using KL-H guides instead of KW, because I don't stock any KW guide now. I certainly can't afford the expensive RV guides. One thing I am not sure KL-H guides can handle 20 lbs mono line. It is good for 12lbs and below I think, but I may be wrong. Regards, Johnny

I am building Northfork 11 1/2 ft and MHX 10 ft surf rods. These rods are for fishing striper bass, halibut and salmon in San Francisco Bay. The spinning reels I am using are Shimano ULCI45500XTC and ULCI414000XTC. The reels will be loading with 15 or 20 lbs of mono line. I can't determine whether to use KL-H or KW guide for these rods, because I only stock with KL-H guides. If I am using
