Can you folks tell just by looking at an included factory decal what kind you are dealing with? Or do you just know from past experience with each manufacturer? For example, I have a few new NFC blanks (which I was under the impression were the press and peel away transferable type decals), but to me they appear to be the more common peel and stick labels…

Thank you Gents! I really appreciate the feedback once again! Several little details I did not know. I used Rec recoil on my last fly rod, so I thought Id give snake brand a try. I like knowing where my products are made (and supporting US or ally economies). This is just a personal rod because I have been wanting to catch a steelhead on the fly for years and figured it was about time I learned.

Anyone use Snake Brand “Spey-Heavy Wire” guides? Are they used all the way to the tip? Plan to build a 12.5’ 8wt as I understand that's what folks around here tend to use (with Skagit heads). I am not real confident what size guides to use here. I’ve only ever built a handful of fly rods (enjoy, but I’m just not much of a fly fishermen) and I’m building my first Spey to learn on. Any guidance

Thank you gents! I appreciate your time and feedback. I had checked the McFarland site and saw they didn’t have blanks listed, not sure how I missed them for sale at Anglers Workshop. I am looking over all your suggestions now, may be contacting you soon Herb!

I have been looking for 2-4 wt fiberglass blanks. Can you recommend any worth considering? Anyone have experience with Bloke (UK) or Epic (NZ) blanks? Surely there are some North American manufacturers out there too, but I can’t seem to find any.

Thank you Spencer. I think I might want to get a few of those blanks! I have no idea why I was so ignorant about Seeker. I didn’t even realize they were US made (knowing where my products come from is very important to me). I think I had it in my head that they were more of a saltwater manufacturer and kind of just dismissed them. Since I have started to really troll through this site and grad

Thank you! I don’t think any of the reels are really worth much. That rocket, because it is in such good condition with a box and instructions might fetch $50 from what I could tell. With most things, including these old reels, I am inclined to save or conserve historic items. I think I want to either find an old rod or make a retro-looking rod, use it on a couple of sunny days and hang it on

I was handed a box of old reels the other day and naturally, I want to build some rods for some of them. I particularly think this little Pflueger Rocket looks pretty cool, not even sure if it has been used, but I am not sure what I want to do with it. It has no drag, just a leather thumb brake. I can’t imagine many applications, around my area, where no drag would be a desirable feature. Do

Thank you again Gents! I have particularly been looking for Kokanee blanks lately and came across a few, like Lamiglas “Closer” blanks, marketed as “Walleye” so I thought I’d ask the experts. I always appreciate your time and thoughts!

Could someone please “translate” something for me? Particularly interested in understanding what the term “walleye” signifies in marketing speak, in regards to blanks (or line for that matter). Any other marketing terms worth sharing? I predominately fish Salmon, Trout, Kokanee, etc. Never fished for Walleye or really been much of a Bass Fisher.

Since we are on the topic of PG, what do you use to clean up brushes, sponges and such? Or are they just disposed of after each use?

Well I have not used it before, but have been reading through old posts about it hardening. Thought withdrawing via a sealing syringe might limit the moisture getting inside. Silly? Overkill? Again I have not used it before. just thought it might be worth a try since ill not likely be using it too often.

Does anyone happen to know if a 20mm self sealing syringe top would work on a 4oz Perma Gloss bottle?

I thank everyone for taking the time to reply and share their thoughts. I was very tired when I posted earlier and think perhaps I could have worded things better! I was mainly trying to figure out if there were any new products or components you pros thought were worth trying. I don’t produce the volume or have the margin for trial and error of every product that seems interesting. For effici

Could you please share your go-to products and suppliers of 2019? I have been getting more serious about rod building these last few years, and feel like I have been burned a few times, by suppliers I thought were reputable and products that disappoint. Some brands, like fuji, I have come to blindly trust, liking all their products (until I tried their graphite arbors), other brands I really w
