Sad story indeed. Age is the one thing that will get us all in the end. I'm just trying to do all I can while I still have sufficient health to do so, but fear I too will have to hang it up in the not too distant future. Best wishes to you.

I run anywhere from 10 to 20lb braid in several of mine, never had any problem. What size tip are you using? Most of mine are 5's

My first build - over 45 years ago was on a 9ft Fenwick fiberglass fly blank. Still one of my favorite spinning rods. Largest landing with it was a 23lb King Salmon

Had one last year like that, and am usually extremely careful with my mixes. After a couple days I did as Donald suggested. Put a 2nd coat on and all was well

I've learned to lock it in to the groove on the edge of the spool before cutting. Had to untangle too many springs in the past. Ordering some Silky this week to try.

I made 2 driers. One is 6rpm and the other 15rpm depending on what mix I'm using at the time

Decided to scale down the idea and ordered the basic CRB / RBS Power Wrapping System. Should do what I really need for now. I can always upgrade or modify later if I feel the need.
Thank you everyone for the input. If I was younger and not on a reduced income I probably would have chosen a much more advanced unit, but think I'll be fine.

12. Re: Rod blank ?
St Croix made that decision awhile back. Not sure about specific remaining stock, but Mudhole still shows them. Otherwise I would do a web search for St Croix blanks and try everyone who comes up to see what's left.

I've built many things over the years, some very intricate - just not ready for another big project. At this point in my life I'd rather start with someone els

I'm really appreciating the feedback guys.
What is the difference between the Alps and the American/PacBay? They both look the same.
Can a reverse circuit be added to either of them?
I don't like the idea of having the carriage between me and the rod, but think I could make my own assembly to fix that.

Thank you for your response Mark.
1) I have only had experience with the latter and think it would be clumsy for me to have the spools on my side. I do enjoy doing inlaid and wound threads and will be doing some olive leafs etc.
2) Totally agree
3) Had not considered speed control, but would be wonderful to have. I do think that could be added on the motor base eventually.
4) Was not

I'll be turning 70 in a few weeks and have arthritis in my hands that can be extremely painful at times.
I built my first rod back in the early '70s and took a long hiatus before getting back into it a couple years ago. I only did basic builds until a few months ago when I did my first butt wrap. I've done several since, building decorative rods for family and friends and other than my hand is
