Here is another rod guide done (before I made the first post) which I applied 3 coats of CP and then the finish. This one looked good although black does cover a lot of defects which I’m stating as a disclaimer. Maybe the picture isn’t that great.

Your saying that the spots are just saturated with finish and no CP rather than actually “separated”?

Thanks you both Roger and Tom. I will apply that method and see how it works out for me and see how it turns out. I notice some times I have a good level finish and sometimes it just doesn't go well with me. Still working on it. And with regard to the CP I will coat two next time. here are links to the pictures for you to see. Hopefully anyone can see them.

So I initially did some wraps previously with viscose and rayon thread. This was a while ago. I noticed then, that after I applied several coats of color preserver, the threads would "spread" apart. I found this really odd. After that I would burnish the wrap and it would go back to looking good and in order. On other spots where the wrap did not spread with color preserver, when I

Hey guys, so I'm currently collecting components to build 2 130# IGFA rods. Im going for the vintage theme, and currently I have 2 new Varmac RS6 with ferrules/collet, and the wood butts. I just bought because they're so rare but gosh they look beautiful, two sets of the Mildrum roller guides in all black single foot. DROF #6 and then ROF #5-1, The tip the set came with is not suitable fo

Hi guys, new member on here and just wanted to make a small introduction. I just recently got into the rod building part of fishing, and currently do mostly reel maintenance/repair here in Miami, FL. I have enjoyed so far the little I've done which has been re wrapping rods, although still have lots to learn. Looking forward to all the guys on here as well as the sponsors.
