Played around with the guide setup. Used the X27 system. Placed the choker guide 55" from the reel spool. 26" to tip top from choker 4 3/8 " spacing to tip. Additional 5 guides to the Tip Top 6 guides total. Choker Guides and running guides CRB LZR #8 ring, Tip Top CRB LZR Med Duty #8 ring. Stripper Guide, Reduction Guides all VS3 Titanium single foot guides 30-20-16--10, Total

Been rethinking this setup.... maybe going with a modified concept layout using 25 16 12 8 VS 3 Guides and either 5 or 6 ( 5.5 or 6 mm ) running guides. Probably work well with either Braid or Mono ??????? Thanks Rick

Re-wrapping a St. Croix Ben Doerr 8 1/2 " Surf Rod rated for 6-14 # Test Line up to 1 1/4 oz lures. The rod is at least 20 years old and had 5 clunky double foot guides on it. Stripped everything off and am now ready to re wrap. Thanks for the info guys !!!!!! On another note.....I checked out the St Croix rod kits at Mud Hole, that Blank plus guides and handle kit will cost $247.00, I can buy the completed rod for $270.00 built with the same components. Plan on building a St Croix 4C78MHM big cranker rod this winter. I intend to use Fuji SIC guides and would like to know what would be the best type, and ring size setup for this rod. It is 7'8" in length and will be paired with a Revo Winch casting reel. 10-12# Floro- Carbon line and lures like the SPRO Rock Crawler & Rapala DT 20 Crank Baits up to 7/8 oz.
