I don't reply much. But I do have to say this, I am assuming when Michael mentioned 2pt 2K clear, he meant Max 2K clear. I use this to restore Mitchell reels, but don't think I'd use it on a rod. I has very little flexibility. Just my thought. It's used by many on cars.

I also live in an apartment. I just but the sandpaper on the kitchen counter, and sand in a circular motion. Keep checking to square it up.

Roger, I buy, repair, and restore Mitchell reels. These reels are not hard to work on, Wallace Carney has a very good youtube video, to repair and maintain the 300. I have (2) 300's I can send to you, all I ask is the cost of shipping. I am a strong advocate of young anglers, I give 2 or 3 UL rods and reels, away at kids fishing rodeo's. If your interested email me, subject line Mitchell 300 for

I'm no expert for sure! But I bought a QLOUNI Rubber Seam Roller from Amazon $10.00. With the roller I roll from the middle and around the blank, than the same on the bottom half. With the roller i can roll the heck out of it before and after taking the protection part off. I also apply CP to it.

It was about 1974, I bought a Fenwick 140 ultralight. If I remember correctly and had a lifetime guarantee. Same night I went to my buddies house to show it to him. Held it by handle and about two guides down from the top, put a bend on it and snap it it right in half. Took it back to the sporting goods store in the next day, and told them a carp snapped in half not even 5 labs.

I have a rubber roller with a handle. I just tack the label centered, than use the roller to smooth it out and around the blank. This get all the air out, and after peeling the covering off, I can use a lot of pressure rolling over the blank and label. Now I do have a question, did I see somewhere to use thread finish on the label before epoxy?

I've not not seen a bad apple in the bunch!!! My only regret is, that I didn't take up this hobby in my younger days. Bill Vivona I asume your from NJ, mind if I ask what part? Since your talking reels, I'd like to add a little something. I collect and restore vintage Mitchell reels. On all my reels fresh or saltwater reels, I put a thin coat of Corrosion Bock grease all over inside and out. Of course I wipe the outside down! Just this season fishing an inlet in NJ, I hooked a boat prop witch took the rig (Penn 4400ss) right out of my hands into the inlet. A guy next to

I have painted a few, I scuffed them some with a 3M pad, and light sanding I believe I used 1200 paper. I painted them with Krylon Fusion all-in-one paint, takes awhile to cure (1 week for me). After the paint (2) I used Perma gloss, turned out nice. The other I used Max 2k clear glamour, Only because restored a Mitchell reel, and needed Max 2k clear glamour (a car clear coat in a spray). My thing the last year, since building rods (I don't build anything fancy). Is going to the trout streams near me, with a few UL rods and pair them with 204 or 308 Mitchell reels. I have people come up to me all the time, after hearing the clicking of the reels. Most tell me how they had Mitchell reels as a kid. The reason I take a few, is I look for a young angler. If they have a sub par rig, a

I have used permagloss, with Krylon Fusion paint with out a problem. Is the the paint and clear coat really that much of a factor to the blank? I fish mostly UL 5' rods and don't notice anything different.

I am by no means an expert builder. However I do restore Mitchell reels. Austin I usually use Dupli-color while using Dupli-color auto paint I bake it to cure. Obviously you can't bake a blank. , I just did a purple using Krylon Fusion reel restore, and painted the blank. I put two coats of Max 2K clear glamour spray. She has used it quite a few times and seems to be holding up very well.

Well I guess I have to chime in. When I first started building, same thing so many questions. Mark you were my first one on one contact, and lead me to Norm. I to have had many personal contacts with him. He truly is passionate about the craft, and will go out of his way to help in any way! My first 6 build were 5'6" UL trout rods. Norm helped me all the way thru the first couple, even sent

Oh the HMX is an inexpensive blank with a lifetime guarantee. That's why I built that blank. In the10 months I've been building I've built 11 rods ( mostly trout rods, 3 saltwater). Just now feeling like I'd be able to build a better blank like a St Croix etc. I fish Point Pleasant NJ, maybe I'll see you their.

Gerard, I also am in the northeast, and new to building. But you at the right place to learn, the guy's here are outstanding! Take a lot of notes. Now I built a rod for flounder in NJ, that will work nice with both strippers and flounder. Mudhole has a L905-MHX 7 1/2' blank, i was surprised how light weight it is. I use it with a Penn 4400ss. Like I said take note, I'm sure a lot of guy's will

Welcome Junior welcome to the forum. I am a novice builder, and have learned so much from the builders here! Your neighbor Norm has mentored me, helping me along the way that no one could imagine! Heck if he lived near me, he'd probable lock his door and hide from me by now. This is THE BEST forum I belong to. Most of the members are helpful and without drama. Mark Talmo, glad you got the information you needed. Till coming here I've only been a Mitchell reel and Fenwick lover. Being a new builder I can only suck up information, and not contribute to the forum. I will how ever still be looking to help anyone, if it is only by my contacts networking. Building a rod was always something I wanting to do, now it's a disease that won't go away. Thanks for t
