I have build that the customer and I think is going to look best with a matte finish on the guide wraps. The only post I could find that addressed this was from 16years ago. So I thought I'd bring the topic up and see if anyone has found a new method. I'd really like to find a finish. Not have to go back and sand a gloss finish to create the look. Thanks

Hopefully you have found your guides already. If not... I got 2 similar Abu Garcia rods in my shop today. The both have Sea Guide guides on them. 1Ti and 1 pvd gunmetal. Oddly they both have broken inserts on the first guide.

I also use braid, however I learned a little trick at ICRBE. I replaced my bead with a small piece of bright yarn. Yarn makes it visible when I drop it on the floor but doesn't add so much weight that my pull through wraps its self. Thanks Billy! I told you I'd try it. You were right. I ditched the bead.

Thanks Tom. I think I found the type of balloon you are talking about on Amazon. I'm not sure how to post a link here but they call it a punching balloon.

I have been thinking about and have done a little experimenting with using the squeegee method for painting blanks. Primarily ice rod blanks. I like a high vis tip however the OCD part of me doesn't like when the factory high vis doesn't align with a guide wrap. I am wondering if anyone has experience with the method? More importantly has advice on what to use for a film. I have tried a couple of

The UL glass rods I purchased at Netcraft in the past are what I would call "very whippy" I have a couple as samples, but have yet to find a buyer. They are way to light. I'm with Spencer. Start heavier than you expect to need and tune it to the user.

That's why we do this rod building thing, right? Anyone can buy a close representation of what they want for a rod. We work to come up with more creative ways of delivering exactly what we or the client is looking for.

Thanks Mark. I wasn't thinking about the problems I'd encounter trying to drill my center bore after filling a seat. I know there are prefab options. I was thinking about doing a little experimenting.

So I'm needing to cast some urethane arbors, cores for CF grips on Ice rods. I'm looking at pourable urethane through US Composites. My question is do I need 16 pound urethane or will 8 lb suffice. Is it a bad idea to pour urethane directly into a real seat or CF tube? I really appreciate the years of experience and knowledge on this forum. You guys really save me from a lot of mistakes.

Thanks everyone! I too learn a lot more by watching as opposed to reading. Huge thanks for the tip on Mary McIntire. I think that is going to be a great help.

I have also been shaping on my only rod lathe, but have been dreading the day I would regret that decision. I have considered moving my shaping to the garage but haven't made the investment in a second lathe. I like the air filter idea Tom. I think I will get to work on that this weekend.

I wrap over stubborn decals. Leave it for a few minutes. Remove the wrap and then epoxy. Never fresh "hot epoxy" and dont use any heat in the area.

So here is my dilemma... a client brought me a five gallon bucket (his apparent method of storage) containing several ice rods that have been stored in the attic of his garage. Many of the rods had lures attached to keepers, and under a great deal of tension. I'm sure most of you can guess what I have now. I have 5 or 6 solid carbon and 1 glass rod with permanent curves in them. Or is it permanen
