How exactly does one measure single foot or snake type fly guides? Are they the same as ceramic? Thanks as always

I questioned the same same when I built my first LMX. The LMX blanks have an unsanded look with exposed cellophane spiral look as well. I really like the look and feel. The male sections are sanded smooth for the ferrule to fit into. What Andrew is seeing , I'm assuming, is they sand smooth plenty more than a new ferrule joint appears to need so as the blank ferrule breaks in and wears it has roo

I'm still a novice when it comes to fly fishing. Why is one better than the other. I'm getting ready to build an 8' 3wt and I was thinking about trying downlocking seat on this one. I've seen a few that look aesthetically pleasing to me. Just not sure why one over the other.

I'd agree with Spencer. I've built several X Ray and Delta blanks with no issues. I've never seen a need to sand any blank. NFC actually discourages sanding the Xray blank claiming it will take away the crispness bit to each their own when it comes to building rods.

I hate building for bass fisherman. A rod to them is supposed to be an indestructible tool. They haul in some great fish like a crane. Rods laying on the deck can be easily stepped on. Heavy baits and extremely sharp hooks banging the rods and nicking them. See it all the time on TV. I built a trio of rods for a friend and in a matter of 24 hours he snapped 2 in almost the identical location of t

Thanks all. I'm not to worried about the wood changing since it is stabilized. I think I will use my thread epoxy.

What is the best finish for a turned burl fly seat? It is stabilized and I'm looking for a nice gloss finish. Is epoxy acceptable or permagloss. Thanks as always

How do you turn a grip that has wood and cork. Do you turn the wood first? I've noticed when I shape mixed corks the plain cork want to shape much quicker. Just wondering about any tricks I guess before I do my first attempt. Thanks as always

I have always put a "base layer" prior to putting on the decal. It's always produced a quality application for myself. Never had one lift either or used CP. Just me

My last order was a 2 weeks ago. 5 days from order to received. But I've never had long wait times in the past. I did however receive an email forewarning me about rising cost of materials.

I searched and only found a few posts. I know it's a little off topic but Has anyone made a multi piece wading staff and if so what did you use. I'd like to make one for a customer but not sure what to use. Thanks as always Mark

Michael, when you move over to DC you'll ask yourself why you didn't do it sooner. Roger hooked me up.

Gentlemen, as always. Thank you. I have a few possible stabilized inserts I've turned. I've never fished in salt so I wasn't sure. My customer probably knows but I just want to be certain

More questions on the fly stuff today. I have a guy looking for an 8wt fly rod and he said he will be using it in salt water. What do I need to look for in the seat? Will a standard wood insert style be okay ? I was planning on REC titanium guides. Will there be any issues with cork? Thanks Mark

Tom and Michael, I kind of figured what both of you have stated. I have been going of mfg suggested sizing and have been pretty much spot on. I was just wondering though.

Is there a standard for fly reel seat sizes? What makes a seat "ideal" for a certain wt rod? Som many beautiful seat options with fly seats I am finding it challenging when I research them. Lots of suggestions but I do know as a custom builder we can go outside the box Thanks as always, Mark

I have a guy wanting a travel rod. He wants a 3 pc medium with fast action. He is a private plane pilot and wants something to take with him. Spends a lot of time in Alaska. MHX is all I seem to come up with so far in that length. Any other direction you can point me in. Thanks as always

Thanks Tom. I should have mentioned all are 9' as far as the 8wt goes with these rods line weight is kind of a moot point. They will be used for steelhead Chuck and Duck and Indy rigs.
