Mr. Maslov, If you could email me I too have a question about an order I placed in September. I’ve tried to email info@northforkcomposites.com but it just takes me to the home page? My email address is hutch220@b

I have done this several times and it turns out nice. Mix the pigment of your choice with some thread epoxy and mix well. You can either freehand the epoxy onto the turning rod and make a “cone”. The easiest way I have found is to use a rubber or vinyl winding check then apply your tinted epoxy on top of it. If you use black pigment it hides the rubber winding check but the winding check helps i

Bruce, I have used the two-tone grips on several occasions and find them to be comfortable and attractive. It’s a bit heavier than straight cork but it seems sturdier as well.

David, In response to your question I usually utilize the size 17 Aero seat or the Fuji IPS like Mr. Miller suggested. The IPS seat with the NFC soft touch carbon grips is a very comfortable and attractive combo. It doesn’t bother me to have my finger on the threads of the reel seat, so I usually just use a graphite winding check to finish it off, but the hidden thread hood makes a good lookin

I like the Fuji products but I’m not a huge fan of the TVS reel seat. It’s pretty thin and becomes uncomfortable after a day of fishing unless you have very small hands.

I apologize if my question was worded poorly. I know what I want to say, just have a hard time getting the meaning across. Mr. Keough and Mr. Miller, I believe that is what I am looking for. Thank you.

I recently purchased an American Tackle carbon fiber foregrip sleeve for use with the G2 handles. It looked great on the website and it wasn’t until it arrived that I noticed it is not meant to “meet” the blank. All the other hidden thread sleeve hood covers I have used in the past were reamed to fit the blank. This one obviously has a large gap between it and the rod. Is there something made to

I have built on a lot of both the CRB and MHX blanks, and I find the CRB blanks to be a great value. As noted above they may not be as technique specific as some higher priced blanks, but they are a lot of bang for the buck. I have also been happy with MHX blanks. They are more expensive than the CRB blanks but have more options and are a bit more refined. I cannot comment on the Rainshadow blank

I have installed Winn Grips on several rods over the years and they have held up well, but I have a few that are starting to show their age. They are worn and the grips have become rough. What is the best way to remove them, so I can install new grips? I am not talking about the Winn Grip overwrap, but the actual Winn Grip rear and butt grips. Thanks for any advice.

I’m sure the pros have a better way, but I’ve always just made tape arbors to get the insert snug on the blank. I use epoxy paste to glue the insert to the tape arbors then use the same paste to glue the reel seat to the carbon fiber insert.

I just finished a rod and was putting the reel on it when the cork foregrip cracked. I used a Fuji Tvs reel seat with a hidden thread sleeve and cork foregrip. As I tightened down the cork foregrip it cracked, apparently between the cork rings. When I back off the foregrip the crack in the cork lessens, but if I tighten it down enough to secure the reel firmly it widens considerably. I’ve built s

I’ve read a lot about rods being balanced, but I have never found any advice on the best way to achieve it. From the videos I have seen they say for the greatest angler comfort the rod should balance near the reel. When laying out your handle assembly how is the best way to achieve this if you aren’t certain what reel will be on the rod?

Josh, The Winn grip handles you referenced in your post do fit a size 16 Aero seat quite well. I’ve done quite a few builds with them and they turn out nice. Also, instead of winding checks I use a hidden thread sleeve from the Fuji TVS line (size 16). Couple that with an EVA foregrip designed for the hidden thread sleeve and it looks great and hides the threads on the reel seat as well.

I have never applied Permagloss to a blank. When doing so, do you apply it like thread finish to a rotating rod? Is a brush the best tool to apply it with?

I have stripped an old rod of my buddy’s and am putting a new guide set on it. Most of the old guides were double foot and the guides I am replacing them with are single foot so the “footprint” where I scraped off the epoxy and thread is much bigger than what I’ll be replacing it with. My question is how do I cover up the scuff marks on the blank from the scraping and sandpapering off of the old

When a company says a blank is “unsanded” is it still usable that way or does it have to be sanded before you can build on it?I am a novice builder and came across some rods on mudhole that says they are unsanded and wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

It seems most of the web sites I visit have rod guides and tiptops labeled as light or medium duty. What is the difference? It seems subjective because light duty to one person may mean something altogether different to another?

I had a freshly epoxied rod on the rod dryer and at some point during the night it fell out of the holding mechanism. Luckily the epoxy was far enough along that it had mostly set up, but there a few lumpy spots where the epoxy sagged. Can I sand the high spots down and epoxy again?

I have read different opinions on whether spining a rod is necessary or is building it on the straightest axis the way to go?

I have been building rods for a few years now, mostly for myself, and greatly enjoy it. I have recently taken on a lot of work for local tournament fisherman doing rod repairs. Broken guides, tip tops, etc. I realize this may be highly inidividualized but is there a “going rate” for repair work? Such as a price per guide that is the industry norm?
