I agree Roger. This is the first time. The only reason I am this time is because the thread happens to match the reel that is going on the rod. Without CP it would change too much.

I've never used CP and now I find myself scrambling. How much do I put on per coat? Do I just "kiss it" enough to moisturize the threads? Or do I put a heavy wet coat? What the proper amount? Do I wipe off excess? Thanks in advance and forgive my ignorance. Derek

What about Talon? They have fair amount of blanks 14'6". They may have what you need.

Well. I guess it depends on ones definition of 'slightly'. I'm no expert on the matter.

Awesome! Thanks for the breakdown. That's exactly what I was looking for. Confirmation! I had gone through the lineup and those were both my best guesses.

I guess I could email Rodgeeks and have them steer me to the closest thing they have in comparison. Assuming they have that knowledge. I could easily see them not knowing what's equivalent in a different brand.

Yes. They are without a doubt SC111. I took photos. I could post those if I wasn't so tech challenged.

I know people have said that they are indeed the same thing, but it's not so cut and dry for a newbie like myself. So if someone can confirm these blanks in Rodgeeks that would be great. At Cabela's last night the mojo bass set ups with st.croix blank's feel nice. They are sc111 blanks. Model MJC71MF and MJC70MHMF. Exactly what blanks are these from Rodgeeks? Thanks in advance.

Wait. What? You have yet to use braided line? Out of curiosity, how could you not have used any yet? To be clear this isn't a jab at you, just truly curious.

Thanks for the heads up. I am also relatively new to building ( 5 rods)and have 2 surf rods next on my build line up. I'm going to see if I can get that issue coming.

Thanks for these tips guys. I didn't even know about Talon. I can't believe how light some of their blanks are. I went from not enough options, to not being able to make up my mind.

Yes. You are probably right. The 11'6 may be the right choice.

It's on Anglers workshop website. When you click surf blanks, 2 icon's some up. The other being float and multipurpose blanks and that is where the 14'8" rods are. And that's just it, PNW surf fishing is more of a light tackle affair compared to the Southeast. We don't need medium rods capable of casting 6+oz.

Hey that looks good also. Did you notice they have 14'8" ML with the same specs? If it's not a typo, the 14'8" rods are insanely light weight. Is it a typo? Anyone ever feel one of these blanks?

I'm looking for a blank to be used for surf perch on the Oregon coast. Ideally I like to fish lighter tackle. I plan on a spinning setup with 30lb braid. Typically I fish 2 oz. Of lead. I would like a longer rod, but so far I'm liking the sounds of the rainshadow su1246 which is a ML, but I would like a little longer. I see PacBay has a medium power but my fear is it may not be sensitive enough.

I can honestly attribute it to being so sensitive. The back bone and power with that kind of sensitivity is just amazing. I'm going to build one on the 700-250 blank and possibly the 700-3** blan

With the season winding down I've accumulated a few of my buddies rods in need of repair. I don't mind doing them, I figure it's just more experience. I started to prep a rod for new guides and come to find this rod has red paint on the blank to mimic a base wrap. My guess is that this was once common practice? Maybe on cheaper rods? I'm not sure. I'm still pretty new at this. Anyways, due to

Those are all valid points. K guides aren't the best choice. I really like the idea of running just 1 larger guide then running just one smaller size for the rest. Is it still ok to use single foot guides as runners on a halibut rod? Or am I asking for trouble?

So now that I have the blank of my dreams, I'm trying to figure out my guides and layout. I've done a ton of Cyber research and it sounds like there is nothing set in stone when it comes to spiral wrapping. So, here is my brainstorm and theories. Please chime in if you please. The rod is a rainshadow 606-250 being used for halibut. So no casting. So are the only real requirements are that the

Grant, I called Utmost Enterprises and spoke with Carol. Very nice and helpful. I ordered an rckjb606-250. It arrived today. I can't believe how perfect it is. It's everything I wanted. I'm so excited to build on this blank, I'm going to lose sleep just thinking about it and researching guides and spiral wrapping. Thank you for your help and generosity. Derek.

Well after researching the mentioned blanks, I've decided to go with the 606-250. I guess the nice thing about rod building is, if you don't like it, it gives you an excuse to build another...but this sounds like a winner.

What little experience I have in rod building, is with pro-kote. The first test wraps I did on an old trash rod we're coated in what I thought was good enough to be considered a 1:1 mix. I was wrong. 4 weeks later it was still rubbery. I mixed too small of a batch. Second test I did a 3 cc mix. The recommended lowest volume. It still took several day's to get somewhat hard. So I called mudhole te

Those look like great choices. Grant, on the 606-250, though it's lighter, will it have the needed backbone if I hang into a bigger than 60# fish? I'm pro light action but don't want to shoot myself in the foot. For the record, I've been known to catch seabass on a 6' ultralight trout rod with 6# test. Firm believer in having fun with the catch.

Hello Everyone, I need some help. I'm new to rod building and not super knowledgeable on blanks. I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I want to build a Halibut rod for myself. I've never been a bud fan of really short super stiff rods and want to find a blank that is around 6'6" to 7'6" at the most. I would like a fairly sensitive tip, good flex to the rod but have great back bone. Is
