I just purchased the CRB D.C variable speed rod dryer. When I turned the dryer on it is extremely load no matter what speed it is at! Does anyone else use this particular dryer? If so is yours extremely load?

Today I received 3 Rainshadow .385X.105X72 solid glass blanks, I have built on these blanks before. My question/ problem is the finish on the blanks looks and feels like 180 grit sandpaper. Has anyone ever had blanks come like this or should i contact Get Bit Outdoors and get new ones? If i figure out how to upload a picture i will shortly.

John thank you very much for your response. I bought it direct from flex coat on Jan 28th of this year. I have always used a bottle warmer on the resin as I build rods in my basement that is pretty cool. I did not know that heat will turn the harder yellow (lesson learned!). As for the part A would you reccomend I warm it a little longer to get rid of the flakes? I usually warm both the bottles f

I have been using Flex Coat Ultra-V for a couple years now and have never had this happen. I recently bought the 4oz. bottles with the 1cc pumps, I have used about 1/4 of it and now when I mix it it is yellow and not even close to being transparent, it also has little white flakes in the resin part A. Has anyone else every had this happen? I use the CRB epoxy mixer and leave it in there for 5-8 m

Thank you so much for the info! That is one heck of lake trout your client caught! What type of guides do you use for the ice rods? I can't remember off the top of my head what brand but I used double footed guides with a spinning reel for sturgeon.

Roger, Thank you very much that info is very helpful and a great starting point for me. I primarily build ice rods and spinning rods so bait casting rods are a new territory for me. I have built a couple sturgeon ice fishing rods with this exact blank and really like them. I had enough spare parts laying around I thought I would try my hand at building a trolling rod.

I am in the process of building a lead core trolling rod on a rainshadow solidglass .385"X.105"X72. I looked on the website and it says the guide spacing website is down to check the blueprint page and that says it's down to check the guide spacing page. I have enough guides to put up to 8 guides plus tip top. Does anyone have the guide spacing for this particular rod?

This rod will be a spinning rod primarily used in a fish shack unless it is nice enough to fish outdoors. I did order the guides and I baked it off of the tip tops I could get. My guide train should be 20, 16, 12, 12 and tip top 10. I will do a static test first , I just hope it turns out the way t does in my head. Lol thank you!

I am going to build a couple sturgeon rods (spinning) for ice fishing with the rainshadow solid glass blank. The rods will be 42" or 48" I haven't decided yet, they will have 20" handles from butt cap to tip of fore grip. My question is what would be the best guides to use? I was thinking about using the Forecast VD Spinning Guides (double foot), if I decide to go this route do I

He uses 1 - 1.5oz bottom bouncers usually pulling a crawler harness. Would the MHX CCB834 be a good option?

I was asked by a friend to build him a spinning rod for trolling bottom bouncers with crawlers or a Rapala that is 6'6". I was thinking about a MH power rod with a slow or mod action. Does that sound like the correct rod to meet his trolling needs or not even close? And of course he wants to keep it under $100 if possible. Any step in the right direction would be very appreciative. Thank Yo

Hi all, I have been building mostly ice rods now for about a year. I have used almost all the major distributers (mudhole, Sportsmen's direct, Thorne bros ect.) to order most of my components. I like them all but some have there down falls, mudhole takes a VERY long time to ship, Thorne bros is kind of spendy, and no real issues with sportsmen's direct besides the lack of handle choices but

Hi Everyone, I am going to start building a sturgeon rod for ice fishing. I have all the components 7' heavy action rod (cutting down to 50"), my grip is extra long (about 16") to fit under my arm for more leverage and my guides. For my guides I went with smaller sizes (16, 10, 8, 7, 6, 6) as I will be fishing out of hub shelter and not worrying about them freezing up. My question i

I have come to the conclusion that i am going to switch to flex coat. I mostly build light panfishing rods, walleye rods and ice fishing rods. Looking at the flex coat which one would you guys recommend? The original high build, lite formula with ultra v, or high build with ultra v?

When I mix up my epoxy I do it for a minimum of 3 minutes with a timer and make sure it is clear and not foggy like the instructions say, if it is still foggy I continue until it is no longer foggy. It usually takes around 4 minutes. (I did a lot of reading on this forum before I started) you guys are awesome and have a lot of very great advice for beginners. So thanks everyone that has put some

Hello, I am new to rod building I have built a couple rods. I was recently using one of my custom rods with a Rapala, at the end of the day I put the lure on the hook keeper. When I went to use the rod the next time I noticed the hooks really dug in and gouged my epoxy. I have never had that happen with any of the rods that I have purchased. I am using Pro Kote thread finish epoxy. Should I b
