I personally like cork. I've purchased the basic equipment to turn my own and custom turn to the diameter I want. To each his own. I've built rods on EVA, Carbon fiber and cork. Each has it's place, but if I am building for myself, it is cork.

There is also a significant difference in the IMMS610MXF and the ETES610MXF.. I have built on all three. The ETE (Eternity Series) also has a softer tip than the IMM. similar to the REV. I like to use the ETE for Neko rigs around docks and the IMM for shaky head presentation. Often time with the Neko rig the bite is so subtle that you have to have that sensitivity along with brightly colored line

Exactly what Joe said. Buy the size closest to the OD of where the seat will sit. Order on the small size and ream if needed. I have used the MVT Toray and the Tex Touch almost exclusively. Having the locking nut gives the added security of your reel not loosening and with the lower profile of the reel seat, this aligns well with the way I palm a reel. The MVT Toray with the cutout puts you in di

Thanks for the ideas guys. I like the idea of cutting out a plug from the rubberized wafers and then gluing this to the cork rings and turning all at the same time. I am visualizing that I would need to cut the plug larger than the end of the blank so that when I ream to fit, the plug will still fit back in. Both Roger and Herb mentioned using epoxy to affix the plug. Would epoxy be better than T

I want to turn my own rubberized cork butt caps to match my cork split grip butt grip. I have been turning my own cork grips on a lathe, but have had to buy the rubberized butt cap. This limits me to have to size my fighting butt to match whatever size is being sold. I purchased some solid 1 1/4 inch solid rubberized cork wafers in hope to glue these up and somehow turn to match the butt grip. i

I know this has probably been answered before, but I could not find an exact answer in the search. I have applied a couple of coats of finish to a gold leaf dragon-scale pattern, and I had to go out of town unexpectedly for a week. Now that I am back, this could use one more coat to level out and look correct. Will there be any bonding issues with this much time in between coats. I am using Gen4

I glue up about 4 inches of rubberized cork with no holes. I turn about an inch of the end to the outside diameter of the grip I am making. I cut this inch section off and chuck into the jaws. I then chuck a Forstner bit the size I have turned my tenon to into my tail-stock drill chuck. This will get it close. Takes some sanding and practice. You could do the same with the cork instead of rubber

I use a collet chuck from Penn State and a drill chuck on the tail stock end. Not had any issues with safety of the mandrel coming loose.

Hi Carl It is according to where the decorative wrap is going. It is is in between the split grip and the butt grip, I epoxy on the butt grip, do my decorative wrap and then apply my finish over this ( at least one coat. Finish the rest of installing the rear grip, reel seat and fore grip(If the client desires a fore grip). Then attach the guides and put finish over all the guide wraps and second

I have built two of the NFC MB705(HM) for this purpose. They are a good all purpose blank with plenty of backbone. I have been overall pleased with the action. I primarily use this setup for Carolina rigs, Texas rigs and soft plastics.

I replaced mine with this motor. A lot quieter, but still some noise. I also picked up this mount. It was $3.49 when I purchased this mount. Works with the speed controller on CRB. David

Before. I received a PM that the piece that I need is CREVA but most suppliers only carry the CREVD which is dual color. I am going to call the Rod Room and see if they can help.

I am building a rod for a customer who wanted the Fuji PF handle assembly. I ordered all of the specific trim rings noted on the Anglers resource site and even talked to the customer support when I ordered. There just seems to be something missing where the cap ring on the carbon fiber hidden sleeve goes. I ordered the 24-12 size which the 12 mm is the inside diameter. The blank at this point is

Gabriel, I am building a rod for someone wanting the Carolina Panthers thread color on the guides and decorative wrap.. The team colors are ... HEX COLOR: #0085CA; RGB: (0,133,202) CMYK: (100,10,0,5) PANTONE: PMS PROCESS BLUE C The teal blue in STWRAP NCP looks close. Just wondering how much it will darken when finish is applied.

I picked up for my personal rod the Rainshadow Eternity 6'10" MXF at the Expo in February. Absolutely phenomenal blank for shakey head and Neko rigs. Rod has plenty of backbone and you can feel the slightest bite. Enjoy

It's all about personal preference. For me, I like a full cork grip on my crankbait rods. On a spinning rod for finesse fishing though, I like the split grips solely because this gives me the ability to balance the rod to minimize hand fatigue. I will fit the split grip, reel seat, reel and guides (taped on) and find where my reel seat should be to give me a balanced rod. When drop shotting or sh

I have built two of the Delta series for friends of the DS-6107. 6"10" Mag-Lite XF tip. Built both spinning with Fuji TVS seats, Winn split grips and KR guide setup. 16H,8H,5.5M, with 4.5 runners. Casts smooth and handles fish easily with 15 Lb. braid. We catch mostly spots in the lakes we fish 2-4 Lb avg. Good sensitivity for this technique where the bite is 20-35 feet deep and subtle.

You are not by yourself. Fuji guides are what I am waiting on. I finally ordered from the girls at the Rod Room and had it in 3 days. Shipping cost higher, but I got what I needed.

Jason, I don't think that is excessive. The last build for me was a 7' MHF NFC MB705 with the butt guide 19" from the reel guide and I had 10 guides not counting the tip. I used KW10, KW5.5M, and KB : KT runners of 5.0. I thought 10 was excessive also, but with the static load that's what it came out to. I probably could have dropped to 9 but the line would have rubbed. In the library is a

DS-6107 MLXF IM is a good blank for shakey head and Neko rigging around docks. I've built three for clients and one for myself. Very sensitive and plenty of backbone. I also personally have the MB705 MHF IM for Carolina rig and flipping. Some like a 7'6" for flipping but the 7' works for me. Light, sensitive, and stout. Hope this helps.

I also use the Speedball acrylic ink with no smears. I use a Speedball fine tip nib that I took and polished the end with 2000 grit sandpaper enough to not scratch the blank. Test on your fingernail. to figure out just how much to polish the end. This will keep you from scratching your hard work.
