I usually use ProPaste for reel seats and handles but have noticed several guys using normal epoxy. I have some ProKote epoxy (thread finish) I need to get rid of. Would it be OK to use it on reel seats? Why not?

I re-did a bunch of old All Stars I had. 1. Remove guides by heating with a heat gun to soften epoxy, then cut off with utility knife. Be careful to not dig in to blank. I don't like a brand new blade doing this. 2. Citri-Stip entire blank then use a Scotchbrite to scrub residue. Might take 2 times to get it all 3. Wet sand with 1000, then 2000. Auto store has wed sand paper I will

Is there a product that can be applied to a graphite reel seat to make it look new again? I like to sand the areas where the cork meets the reel seat. I start with 240, then go 400 and wet sand up to 1000. The problem is, you can tell what got sanded because it will be a slightly lighter color gray. Taping off the reel seat works OK but that is just about impossible with a Fuji VSS Spinning S

Are you guys using epoxy or hot glue to apply your tip top guides? I have been putting 3 thin slivers of hot glue inside the guide tip, heating it up, then sticking it on the blank, but I don't like heating up the guide for worry of damaging the Alconite. Was thinking about going to straight epoxy (same as thread wrap) but worry about getting it off later if I had to replace it.

I redid a bunch of old Allstars that were flaking and they came out great. After removing guides, I used Citristrip to remove the finish. This took a couple of times. I then wet sanded with 1000 and then again with 2000. It will look like a brand new rod in a natural slate finish. I did not recoat with Permagloss so I have no insight into that.

Some places provide a chart with the diameter of the blank per inch from the butt. This is a starting point. Agree with above ... call your provider. I watched a pretty good YouTube video from Mudhole ... type in ECSM reel seat installation. They actually used one size smaller, then hand filed the inside of the seat to fit. You can just pick the one that slides all the way down to your cork,

Not to dog a particular brand, but I am using a product on the guides and it comes out great but when I use the same product over a 3" span, it is coming out kind of wavy and not perfectly slick.

Which epoxy product is going to give the smoothest finish going over a 1/2"x3" decal?

I am a newbie and working on my first rod. Been doing some practice wraps to get the hang of it. Most of the time when I pull the final thread back under the wrap, it doesn't want to go, tears, and looks like crap. I am using Pro Wrap Size D thread on a CRB wrapper, with the tension rod at about 90 degrees.

I would just call Mudhole and ask for tech support. I called them 3 times the other day when I was trying to pick the right guides and thread and they were super helpful. They will probably pull a blank and thread and match it right up.

I am new to rod building and may not use the right terms. I have several 25 year old All Stars that I want to strip and rebuild with new guides. The biggest issue is the "finish coat", "top coat", or "clear coat" on the outer surface of the rod blank is coming off in places I guess from years in the sun. I want to take that all off. I am OK if my final product is
