Jeffrey, the jig was one from mudhole. Jim, thank you! That was very helpful! After you mentioned a right and left to the jigs it made sense. My jigs were backwards. The #1 cell on the left of the image was actually coming last on the oncoming wrap instead of first. Reversing the jigs would have put thread #1 on top coming under the oncoming wrap first. As it was, the last # cell, correspondi

Ok, I'm scratching my head about this. It's my first attempt at a picture weave, and I worked from a grid I printed on the picture, not a left list. The image was reversed when done. Accurate in form, but backwards. I used a foam jig for 60 threads, wrapped oncoming thread from left to right. I also read the cells left to right. So the question is, what did I do wrong? Is it a matter of reading t

Wielding the longest blank in the surf would be a feat to be repeated very few times for me. I have a 12 foot heavy heaver, and I only like it on the big surf days. It also only throws 8 and bait until I think the bait is over soaked, so it doesn't need continued casting like a metal lure. If you are looking for a sight casting metal launcher you will not want the longest blank of as I have seen

Static rod balance is something to consider, but as Tom pointed out, try the weighted test without making it permanent. You will find a whole different world when actually fishing the rod with a line in the water and a lure with some resistance. Real world fishing is the better test. Experiment with removable weights first in the water and see what you like. Sort of like test driving the car on t

Buzz, I have used wire rods for years on my boat both copper and 7 strand malin steel. Never used roller guides and never had any trouble with the guides you use. I don't know why anyone on the great lakes would want the roller guides except for maybe the tip to replace the twilly we normally use. A full roller guide rod would be only for bling in my opinion and serve only to make the rod way mor

Hi David, I have done a fade wrap that does not involve a pull through. If you can do an inlay of another color as you would for accent in a wrap of your main thread, you can do the same for a fade wrap. As you transition from your main thread ON color, you inlay one wrap of introduced color and lay it on the blank in the direction your going. Over wrap the introduced color with say 5 wraps of ON

Well, I went to the garage and pulled all the surf rods and reels out. I compared the distance from the front of the reel seat to the first guide. A twelve foot typhoon was a full 1 foot farther down the blank than the rod in question. I also compared it to a 10 Foot drum stick and the guide distance was identical from the front of the reel seat. I did pull the spool off the reel and check to se

Good idea! I have a couple others similar length and I will see what the average is for that distance. I think I might remove the spool from one of the 6000 series reels and check the alignment of the spool axle to the guides on a straight edge, and see if there is any trouble with reel alignment as well. Thanks Tom! Roger also! Mark

Spinning rod. It is the eliminator 2 piece surf. I have tried all different reels, all different lines, it still throws a bird nest out the guides. I'm not the greatest surf caster in the world, but I have not any problem with 6 other rod and reel combos I have. Something seems wrong with the rod in its layout. I watch carefully for any slack or dig in on the reels. It doesn't seem to be a produc

I have an older 11 foot surf rod. It is a Daiwa rod, not sure of the specs, and hasn't seen much use because it obviously has a serious flaw in it someplace. It will not cast any bait, lure, weight, or line composition on any spin reel 45 to 60 series, without the dreaded wind knot (even on a calm day) on a mid to strong power cast. That consequently keeps it in the rack and not used. My questio

You could try this one. They show one in their selections if it fits your rods. Not sure though, might not be in operation any more. Anyone know?
