This shows how you can wrap the thread on top of the epoxy if you don't have a winding check.

I'm about his same height but wouldn't consider myself a skinny build. I have never broke a rod on a hookset lower on the rod but I have seen buddies of mine break them in that fashion before. Every single time they were using heavy braid flipping and pitching into dense cover. I've figured that they are using either too light of blank, setting the hook way too hard, or a combination of the both.

I was reading the same topic on another forum. I don't remember which forum it was but the outcome was that other bamboo doesn't have the density of power fibers that tonkin cane does. The power fibers is what makes the tonkin bamboo stiffer than others. Comparing the density of the power fibers in different variety of bamboo culms should help you get an understanding of which species of bamboo m

I agree with Don above. I own multiple MB843's. They are great as a worm rod but you can get away throwing much more than texas rigged plastics on it.

I prefer a fast action short rod for throwing top water. The MHX MB812XF is the way I'd go for the perfect action and power for smallmouth.

It might just be a bad batch or you might have been mixing proportional amounts. I'd try mixing a new batch and if its still like that then throw it away and buy another.

Personally I like a 7ft-7ft 3" rod for light swim jigs a medium heavy with a fast action. The fast action in my opinion gives a stiff enough tip to get a good hook set but flexible enough to keep them pinned. If he is fishing the swim jig around heavier cover or decides to throw a heavier duty swim jig I would bump it up to a heavy power.

Btw, if you're going with a baitcaster for this blank, the Diawa coastal matches the blank pretty damn well

It's not with the wrap but the diawa coastal tws baitcaster reel matches with the blank almost perfectly and makes a great combo

I honestly like the new prowrap premium, they've tamed the springiness with it and it works well.

Be careful with what tip top you put on the pitching rods with it being spiral wrapped, if it has a frame that wraps around the back side of the tip top the line will get caught on it occasionally when you turn your wrist to pitch.

Barry, have you tried out the new premium metallic thread that prowrap released. I've used it a little bit and I haven't had any issues with it springing off the spool.

I'm building a PB691MHXF right now with the same colors for the perfect fit hardware. I went with the fuji titanium torzite micro guides but I opted for the conventional way to wrap them like Ron. I really like how you did the trim bands. I'm using black, red, and metallic silver on mine. I haven't been able to work on it too much recently but hopefully I can get it done soon to upload photos.

I just read about this yesterday. I wonder how long it will be until manufacturers will start producing 9ft-10ft flipping blanks. I wonder if in 10 years how common a 7 and a half foot flipping rod would be, or if any manufacturer would even make them. I can't wait to use a really long flipping rod, an 8'6" cranking stick, and many other options. This new regulation can only expand the fish

I always sand down the cork grips to get the top layer of grime off. Then I fill the pits with . I let it dry, I then sand it down again and repeat until its up to my standards.

I used an MHX SJ842 for a build almost identical for this. It's perfect for it, I have it rigged up with 12lb fluorocarbon and I use it primarily for pitching and casting weightless 5" senkos.

When I replaced my cork with Winn grips I used propaste. It still looks great and I don't think it will ever fail. I thought about double sided tape but I don't think I could trust it enough.

Tom will tell you to not worry about the spine and just build on the straightest portion. If you're worried about the spine then the rod still bends the same way so you would still put the spine the same way as the casting rod.
