I agree with what Kendall and Michael said, 3000 size, also comes with a T handle, which I also prefer. The Ballistic MQ is very nice, Daiwa also makes a Tatula MQ that has a higher gear ratio than the Ballistic if that helps you.

Thanks again David, what are your impressions of that blank ? wanting to build something similar to IMMS72ML power wise but maybe a little nicer, I think you are familiar with that blank too ?

Hello, Anyone that might be able to tell me how far up from the butt of this blank do you have to go to reach an OD of 12.5mm ? TIA. TJ

Thanks Kevin and Michael, found both, couldn't find the Immortal before. Unless I'm reading it incorrectly, it seems the Immortal IMMS72ML is more powerful ( IP 480, AA 81) and faster than the Eterninty ETES72ML (IP 343, AA 76). Also saw the ETES72M listed twice with IP 426, AA 82 and IP 466, AA 75 which is closer to the numbers for the Immortal. Am I reading this right? I have the Immortal, b

Interesting Tom, are you saying that getting into the power of the lower end of the blank is, for lack of a better description, harder to get to?

I too am a Daiwa fan (spinning) with Shimano being close second. Like David, no anti reverse switch is no big deal and one less thing to malfunction, also agree that the mid to higher end reels are superior. I have several Tatulas and Ballistic LT and one of the newer Ballistic MQ and for the extra cost of the Ballistic MQ, which I believe was 229.00 (same as the original Ballistic) as opposed to

Thank you for posting this, stopped wrapping the second of two identical ML with KLH reduction 16,8,5.5 to test this when i read the last issue, as it's not often for me that I do two identical builds, just have been too busy to wrap anything lately. Was interested in what size you used in your test Mark?

Thats a good question you didnt mention what type and test of line you will be using? Personally , on an ultra lite , i would use the minima M frame in the sizes Norm suggested and also the ceramic tip top Mark suggested and use the GPS from Anglers Rsrc (for KLH, not NGC). The frames on the minimas are very easy to bend to adjust the height to get the "bullseye" TJ

Mark, Given your CARL ferrules and slip rings ,i was curious that that might be the direction you are headed, interesting. there are plenty of cheap tenkara options ( I know you get what you pay for, but for an experiment ...) Most with what appears to be a sanded, smooth finish. If you use alignment marks/dots on the blank sections as well as guide alignment marks on both guide and blank, it s

Hi Mark, You should be able to find a tenkara rod for 50 70 bucks on line with a handle already on it that with your custom slip ring might work, hope that helps, interested in what youve come up with guide wise. TJ

Scott, Try doubling the main thread( use 2 threads) and doubling the inlay thread, also continue wrapping a second revolution, line up the second "leaf" so it starts in the middle of the previous "leaf". Hope that made sense? TJ

Gary, Thanks for the reply, that is actually a color I was considering , as well as prowrap equivalent to Gudebrod 720 (recommend by Kerry Batson) will try both of them. Roger , yep black is always a good look and almost always what I use for the guide wraps, thanks for the input. TJ

Hello All, I have a few immortal blanks to build on and was wondering what color thread would match the TC color of the blank. Either using CP or not, actually suggestions for both ways would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, TJ

Jack, most people, myself included use regular drill bits (sharp ones) , increasing the size of the bit as you go to keep the hole centered till it can be installed . the winn grips can stretch a bit so aim for the smallest diameter of the section of the blank you are installing it on , that way you wont need to shim anything. Good luck, Tim

Roger, I use any where (mostly) 6-12 braid/micro dyneema to 6-14# fluorocarbon and also find a FG to be difficult in the boat or at the river, so what I do that really seems to improve the knot strength ( especially with lighter braid ) is to double the braid running line back on itself and then use fewer wraps, as instead of 6 down and 6 back up use 3 down and 3 up, forgot to mention I am talk

I used to get them from Anglers Workshop, but they no longer sell them. I was told by them, ( Anglers Workshop) that Gary Loomis had bought them and was not selling either seat (spinning or casting). Would love to get all I could myself. I made some out of alumilite in a silicon mold and they looked great but I never used them because I didn't think it was strong enough and wouldn't hold up. Anyo

Alex, It will make a very noticeable difference, I have two identical higher end rods that I show to people, one wrapped as it came from the factory, and one rewrapped with an Airwave stripper, followed by a size 7M minima, then size 5 microwave ceramic choke guide and TITI minima size 3 to the tip with a size 4 ceramic tip top (all black guides) and people are amazed at the difference, much c

Thanks everyone for the replies, think I'll try the 20 (could also bend the frame slightly to get a little extra height) short of looking it up on Amtac site as Michael suggested, (jammed up with a ton of things to do before Christmas, and I know what will happen if I go to the Amtac site.....21/2 hrs later I'd get back to business) what size do you think would be my best guess? a 10 then possibl

Hi everyone , and happy holidays, ok so I have a guy who wants a spinning rod built with guides that I have never used before. He wants Amtac A frame ring lock ( wants holo/holo color). Will be using a size 35 pflueger patriarch with 6-8# braid. Don't know if I should start with a 20 or a 25 and what size to go to next. Would like to go to a size 5 runner as the third guide and run those to the t
