The American Tackle Bushido Mag bass would be a great option. The blanks has a fast action and are very sturdy the 7'3 8-15lbs with a set of microwave guide would be a great setup.

American Tackle has a wide range of guides and reel seats that would work on your builds. The hardest part is finding one that fits in your hand comfortably. the best advice I can give you is go the your local big box store and test the rods they have on the rack. Most of those rods components are available to us rod builds you will just have to look around. I do like the American Tackle CCT reel

I use Prowrap for everything including my rods for goliath groupers. for my heavier rods I will wrap the guide 3 times. I just like the look of size A over the larger thread.

I have used the original MW the MW30’s and the MW25’s. The 6mm running guides on the MW25 easily passes double uni-knots and is now my go to guides for my inshore builds. A set of MW25’s on a bushido blank makes killer inshore setup.

Bushido blanks are my go to for bass and inshore fishing. I really love the mag bass series and the LS7 line. I find the LS7 is a great general purposes blanks.

I did a test with the MW 20 and the Fuji Kr spinning guides. I used a Rainshadow IP844 blank and a Penn fierce 2 3000 with power pro 20lbs braid. I used a 1/4oz bunker weight for the test. The first thing I noticed that the MW20 were a lot easier and quicker to set up. Once both rods were setup I took them out and tested them for distance and accuracy. I found with the MW I had to adjust the way

My go to blank is the Bushido mag bass series. These blanks have a fast tip, tons of power and are very sensitive . I use them for flipping docks, mangroves, open water and heavy weeds when fishing for bass. I even use the lighter magbass for wacky worm. If i am going to use any lures with treble hooks then i switch to a Bshido LS7. The LS7 have a softer tip which helps keeps the treble hooks f

I would have to say the Microwave guides. The first time i used them i knew they were a game changer. The ease of setting them up and the durability are some of the reason I use them on 99% of my builds.

My brother in law wants me to build him a catfish rod for the NC area. My fish thought was going with e-glass for the strength and durability. I have a few of the rainshadow ip844 and the ISB844 lying around that I use for inshore fishing here in FL. My first thought was maybe the ISB844, but after some research it seems most do go with the e-glass or a composite. He says he typically uses 15lbs

Here is FL I have been trying to cool my epoxy either in ice water or a ice pack. It does cause the epoxy to be thick but once on the rod it will start flowing. It allows a lot longer pot life and The end results seem to be the same as just doing it without the ice. I am using threadmaster. . I am testing a batch that I left in the freezer for several hours. It never set up and it still was

Don, After seeing the results I totally agree with you. I am getting ready to build a flipping stick for Snook and will be redoing the test to see what happens. I have a feeling that rod will be spiral wrapped at the end.

I would like to start off and say I am I young rod builder and by no means am I am expert on this topic, but I would like to share my experience I had on a recent build. I had picked up a MHX 5’6 power tip stand up rod on sale and wanted to try and build my first offshore rod. I built the bottom of the rod with a alps gimbal,10” slick butt a pac bay reel seat, and a 10in forward grip. For my guid

The speed took a little bit to get use to but I use my free hand to apply a little pressure on the rod while I am getting it going so it does not get away from me. As far as turning grips I use a scrap blank tightly fit the grips midway down. I then will either build a tape arbor to fit the chuck or use a scrap fighting butt and attach it to the end of the scrap blank to fit in the chuck. I will

I love mine! I bought the power wrapper with the 8ft track. I bolted the track to my work bench and have had no problems with the system. I like how the wrapping systems rolls up and down the track and stand removal is simple. I have even turned Eva foam grips on it, For the price it works great.

II am looking to get some feedback on the rainshadow SP843 RX6 blanks and how would it compare to the MHX-L843. I have had good success with the MHX blanks but have read that Baston makes a good blank also. The only dealer near me that sells Baston is Get-bit but they don’t seem to be open on weekend so I cannot go and scope out the blanks. Thank you in advance for your replies.

I used my laser that I use at work. It gives speed and distance and is checked every 6 months. I placed a mark on the road as a start point and sent my wife out to mark where the weight landed. I painted the weight neon orange to make it easier to see and it leaves marks on the roadway when it hits. I did three cast and did and average.

I am wondering what is the average casting distance that custom rod builders are getting out of thier spinning rod set ups. I just built a 7ft CRB 8-10# light action rod. I have a 21 inch reduction train and 5.5mm running guides. I tested it this afternoon and with a 2500 shamino reel with 10# mono. with a 1/2oz spilt shot, I was getting an average distnace of 93ft with out loading the rod

Don, On a 7-7'6 inshore rod running 10-14lbs mono would you recommend the mw30 or the mw.

well the blank is rated for 10-20lbs mono its going to be an inshore rod. That's why I was looking to set it up with the 4000. I was going to use the computer program to give me a base line on guide sizes. I was thinking about getting a couple of different sizes to play around with. My first thought was to go with the MW30 or the basic MW set but I really wanted to try and see what I could do wit

Thank you for the advice. Your guide set up was what I was thinking high frame for the butt and normal and then fly guide. I guess I may still be confused on what a 2500 size reel would be or any of the other reel sizes.

I am trying to make sense of guide size placement for a spinning rod. I think I have a general understanding on it, but want to make sure. So far all my builds have been kits but now I am venturing into setting up my rods from scratch. My next build will be the MHX L904 blank. There is no set reel for the rod since I change reels a lot depending on where I will be fishing, so I figure the NGC an
