In addition to applying an epoxy undercoat, after the decal is applied, I use a small rubber printer's roller to smooth the edges and eliminate air. Works great!

Try a product called GLAYZIT. It works excellent on reels, rods, anything plastic, fiberglass, bakelite, or graphite etc. It's a spray with petro chemicals, so don't get it ANYWHERE near your rod building areas or materials!

Steve, you may want to consider an integral epoxy winding check. They are pretty easy to apply while the rod is turning on the dryer. Just build up layers of epoxy until you get the desired taper. You can then wrap your favorite thread up the taper until you get close to your front grip. (use a loose tension, or the thread will drop off when you get near the grip) Tape the tag end to the g

Steve, I recently refurbed a 40-year-old Sabre 196 honey glass rod and used acetone to help remove the old epoxy. It worked fine. Good luck, Steve

Roger, My "boat" is a 6 foot dingy I use to get out to my "yacht". I purchased a couple hundred spools of nylon, NCP, HT metallic, HT braid, some Trimar, some butt wrap cord, etc. etc. in both A and D sizes, in 100 yard, 1 oz. and 4 oz. sizes. Mr. Gamble informed me he purchased a semi-trailer of threads and miscellaneous items when Gudebrod had a lot of their inventory

Hey Kevin. I recently applied a vinyl peel off sticker to a blank and finished it with 3 coats of Diamond II with excellent results. Good luck!

Hey Darrell, I also placed an order with him for a couple of needles and the cookbook, and never got a response. That was about 3 weeks ago. I've been looking all over for the cookbook with no luck. I'll let you know if I find one. Shoe

I use a zip tie with a mounting hole on one end as an attachment point for a leash near the end of the butt. Removable, and also can be used as a hook keeper. Cheap insurance!

Randy, what size reel will you be using? If it's an Avet SX or JX size (or similar), I would use a size 20 stripper. If it's an MX or HX, (or similar) then I would go with a 25 due to the larger diameter of the reel. What I look for is a nice transition from the reel to the stripper, no excessive angles, same as the spiral guides. I also start my stripper at about 5 degrees off the 0 axis, th

I use Bullard's, especially their metallic. No memory, no uncoiling of the spools, no flaking, and no fuzzies. (when wrapped properly) Try it, you'll like it!

Hey Andrew, First thing I would do is make SURE the unibutt or reel seat you are using will fit the Avet reel. (ask me how I know) The outside diameter of the butt/seat will determine if the reel will fit into the hoods correctly while still allowing using the rod clamp. (if that is your preference) I use Aftco unibutts, reel seats and guides on all offshore builds exclusively. (just my pr

Necessity is the mother of invention. The solution to my dilemma was quite simple, and I would be more than willing to share it. I purchased a used trolling motor foot pedal. Thanks for your concern.

Bill, The simple answer to your question is $$$. I know Roger doesn't work for free, and I would not expect him to. All I was asking for was a little guidance, as I thought this site was famous for sharing information. I have all the parts I need except for the foot pedal, so I suppose I will proceed with experimenting on my own. Regards, Steve Schuster

Roger, what would be the correct contact form for a foot control? SPDT? Would a Linemaster # T-91-S model work? If not can you supply us with a part number please? Thanks!
