I like the MHX s661, ultralight with a fast action. Those are 5'6" however. They have a 5 footer s6010 ultralight with a moderate action. I have not built on that blank. I am currently building 2 661"s now.

Alps Centra-Lok reel seats. I've used the size 20 on a couple rods and want to step this next one down to an 18. Question is exactly what is a graphite cushion hood? Is this an insert inside the hood? I have an idea thats what it is but I'm not sure.

With some advice and help from some guys on here, I built one back in August. Was a 7'6" 3 wt. I used an MN size 8 stripper, than a size 2 single foot wire, then 1/0's to the tip. Guy I built it for loves how it casts and fishes. good luck.

Just an update on the slit grip replacement. First off, I want to again say thanks to those that responded. All opinions and ideas were considered. I opted to do the split attempt so I didnt destroy the other work i did. It was tedious and nerve racking, but I must say I am very pleased with the way it turned out. The slit , which I placed down on the spinning reel side, is unoticeable. you have

Thanks for the replies guys, i appreciate your input. I think I am going to try the split thing with this grip. I have a deco wrap in front of the grip, so from the tip is not an option. i also have custom grips on this build and really dont want to trash the rear grip. Also has an Alps aluminum reel seat. The pattern of the grip clashes with the butt wrap in my eyes. Thus the reason for the chan

I need to replace an eva fore grip. My question is, if I remove the old grip and let the reel seat and the winding check in place, clean the old epoxy off down to the blank. Could I put a single slit, length wise in the new fore grip, epoxy the blank, contact cement the joint in the grip, and feasably slip this new grip in place? Is this the proper way to go about this?

Thanks Herb, Geoff, Grant. Rod I'm getting together is going to be for big river flatheads. Doing some sort of patriotic theme, and those guide rings really caught my eye. Since this will be fished from a holder and not continuous casting, weight is not a priority. Wanted double feet for decorative purposes. Again, thanks.

Anybody use the Alps mxn guides as spinning guides. Really like the blue rings. The frame braces seem to be a bit high though. Just looking for opinions. Thanks.

I believe I'm settled on the rodgeeks x comp, 733. Looks like this blank should fit the bill. The color selections are awsome. This one will be white. On to researching the guide train now. Planning on a patriotic theme.

Yes David, that is an option we are cosidering. Also maybe some glow in the dark thread. Roger, I have heard about the light idea before. That is something I will research a little more. That would certainly be an awesome and neat set-up. Thanks.

Any recommendations for a big river flathead blank. Approx. 30 pound class line, tossing some fairly heavy weights and big baits. 30 to 40 lb fish are the target. Checked a few musky blanks as the specs sound good but was hoping to find something white as it will mostly be used at night. Any ideas?

What is your go to color preserver for laying down a feather inlay. This will be on top a tiger butt wrap.

I was leaning to the tru oil as I have been researching these posts. My concern was, will the cork take the tru oil. Not looking for a real glossy finish just a little sheen.

I've used u40 on the cork grips I've made. My question is for birch bark with cork accents on both ends, can I use u40 or should I go to tru oil?

I stand corrected, Phil. I am referring to single foot wire guides.

I am using single foot snakes, with a Fuji LN stripper. I have purchased the snakes in multi sizes. Pac bay brand. I prefer the smaller ones and just wanted some imput. Also have the standard tip top. I jumped in deep on this one as I am in the process of building the grip from birch. The blank is the brook trout finish and my wraps will be white, black, and orange. This build is for a good frien

I'm a beginner rod builder. Have built a handful of ultralight trout rods. I'm working on my first flyrod. 7'6" 3 wt. 4 peice. Mhx native series. For guides I'm going 9 plus tip top. 8, 3, then 1/0 to the tip, does this sound about right or should I go 2/0 to the tip. Thanks for any input, Tim.
