Are you using the REC RECOIL guides? I have found that they cast better than the regular recoils.

when you use the handle, it throws a twist in the that ends up at the tip. if you watch the line when you use the handle to close bail you will see how it does twists the line. closing by hand stops that from happening.

do you close your bail by hand or by handle?
if you close it bye the handle it throws a loop around tip, try closing
it by hand and see how it does,I think you be surprised.

Superior thread is real good locks up good and has some great colors. It is a embroidery thread so it is not the stongest, If you can find some Gudebrod HD metallic thread it is the strongest thread .

It is called a back stop nut, and does what you are looking for. and it does work with older seats, but it your reel seat has a fore grip on it you might have to take it off to install it. along with any guides that it will not go over.

I and some of my customers have been fishing these blanks from day one. Jim sent them to me to try out before they went into production. I agree with what Billy said.. I have seen surf rods that are always in the truck racks, and they look just like your pictures.
