Hi, building my first trout fly rods, 3 & 4wt, for a friend and not sure what guide sizes to use as well as how many strippers? I’ve only built 7wt and up and switch/Spey rods. Any recommendations would be helpful thanks!

Coworker broke about 1.25” off the tip of my RainShadow immortal blank, 7’6” ML, and I was wondering how much would that affect the rod action and sensitivity. The good news is that I’m still able to use the same tip top which means it broked at a leveled taper part of the rod? Not sure what that means exactly as far as action goes. Should I just keep it or send it in for a new blank? Though I

Herb, I believe it was the 2005 model. It was when the St Croix legend ultra was still around as well.

Hello! I broke my beloved brown blank St. Croix legend elite 9’ 8wt and although St. Croix did replaced the rod with the latest legend elite, it felt nothing like my brown blank. Now I’m looking for something that has a similar action/feel and was thinking of trying out the CTS affinity x. Anyone have experience with both these rods and can give me a comparison? I love the quality and performance

Kyle, asked my buddy google “bobber rod blanks” and limit creek came up. They have an 8’3” ML fast action telescopic rod down to 6’4”. Never tried their blanks but be interested if you decided to give them a go! Otherwise I know the old St. Croix legend tournament 8’ slip stick was telescopic if you can find one. Good luck!

Thanks all. I figured it was due to different manufacturers. It’d be nice if all manufacturers supplied a common cents number!

Hello! I’m looking at two rods that has the same lure weight and action but different power rating, ML and L. Not sure how that works? Is it because of the different tapers? But even so, how can it have the same lure ratings? In case you’re wondering, the rods are: MHX - SJ9000, 7’6” ML Fast action , lure: 3/16 - 3/8oz, line: 6-12lb Phenix Bass Recon2 - PHX-S762L-B, 7’6” L Fast Action, lure:

Hi all, Since we're limited to only a few colored cork, I've been using foam sheets to design my handle trims. It's easy to work with and has a good amount of colors up until the sanding portion. I can't seem to level the foam out with the cork and it's leaving "ridges" or high points in my handle. Keep in mind these are 0.5 to 1mm foam trims that are layered in between thin cork rin

Roger, unfortunately not. I have to go from bottom up to reach my issue. I guess I will just have to cut out the handle and redo it...better safe than sorry I suppose.

Hi guys, so I built a split grip rod and the reelseat with a hidden locking nut rear grip using something I frabricated and long story short, it failed. It needs to be replaced with the KDPS quick-lock reel seat locking nut. My dilemma is I really like my existing bottom handle and don't want to cut it out but the replacement component needs to be inserted through the bottom. My question is

Hi all, I'm debating which stripper guide to get for my high end (burkie) fly rod build. Does anyone have experience with the Alps Ring lock solid titanium guides? And are these really solid titanium versus coated? It's either these or the pricier Fuji titanium frame SiC guides. Thanks!

Hi all. I am wondering which characteristic am I changing if I cut off 6" or more off a rod? Power or Action? Correct me if I'm wrong, power is in terms of light, medium, or heavy and action is slow, mod or fast? So for example if I cut off 6" from a 9ft medium fast rod, does that turn into an 8'6" medium mod-fast or 8'6" medium light fast? Any thoughts or input would be a

Hello, I've been wondering if there is any particular reason why heavier weight fly rods or Spey rods should use heavier gauge wire snake guides than light? Is it due to looks? Or is there a performance issue with using light wire guides with thicker/heavier line? I find it somewhat hard to believe it would be due to strength of guide since it's double foot and wrapped twice but I could be wro

I hear fly rod guide spacing/placement isn't as critical and important as spinning/casting rods. Is there any truth to this and what would the reasons be to why? Thanks!
