The first rod I ever done was with telephone books on the table, for tension on the thread. Would put the thread between the pages and ad more books as needed for more tension. Then turn around a chair and lay my hands over it and roll. Worked good , took a little longer Then went to rollers on a bench 10’ long

How many guys still roll by hand. Once you learn , you can roll pretty fast. I’ve had my set up for years. My rollers are steel roller skate wheels, that can be moved to fit the wrapping pattern. What’s your setup.

I started building Lamiglas rods years ago, with my buddy . He has this freshwater rod in his hand and shows us how great these Lamiglas rods are. He bends the tip right to the butt. See they don’t break. Turns around and goes go put it in the closet and shuts the door on the tip top. Well, he said they break when you close the door on them .

Like 6 or 7 I like to use a piece of # 10 wire coating , I pull the wire out. I use this instead of a nail Then lay the hollow piece of wire coating on the line. I go abut 6 r 7 turns and then run the mono or braid through the middle of the wire. Then pull the tube ( wire coating ) out. Then start pulling a little on both ends until tight while rolling the middle loops a little with my fing

I did not say that line leveling had to do with the spiral wrap. What I said was that the spiral wrap helps the beginner having trouble with keeping his reel straight, Without a level wind reel. Because of the 180° turn , it helps them. Beginners have trouble with their reels, maybe the weight, or thumb control ? They seem to turn the reel to the side and the line goes to the side of the reel

It helps beginners. Did you ever see a newbie use a conventional reel like a jigmaster or a 113H with out a line leveler ? The reel twist on them and the line goes all to one side. Sometimes so bad that they can’t reel the rest of the line in. Happens with kids also. They don’t know how to thumb it.

I have used them and build them. Just was looking to see what your thoughts were. I really don’t see too much difference. I’ve been fish for a long time and my thumb works good on leveling the line. I do see it works with beginners, it keeps them from getting all the line on one side of the reel. As far as laying the rod on the gunnel, that’s not good for the rod. That’s my two cents.
