I have questions about standard graphite slip over type ferrules and when to wrap and epoxy them I see people wrapping and epoxying before installing them together I see people slipping them together wrapping and epoxying them what is the correct procedure to wrap and epoxy a ferrule?

Tom....after reading your article on the straightest axis I am going to try it on my next build when I find tip & butt up on my rod stands and building a spinning rod the guides would be placed 180 degrees of that finding correct?

Yes Roger your on the ball! that is the type of stands I have & per Spensor the stands are about 12 years old & spun many of rods with them stands threw the years I was just always repairing them but now I'm out of spring to repair I called around & it seems to me there is no OEM spring available so I found a small bolt & installed a thumb nut on the other side....Thank You Roger

Anybody out there needed to replace there rod stand tension wheel springs like for the Alps & Pac Bay type rod stands they all look the same to me if so from where having trouble finding replacement springs.

I am building a 7' Walleye rod ML/P Fast action blank & using the NGC suggested reduction guide set up is 16H 8H 5.5H because I have trouble with swivels ect passing threw the small #4 runners I would like to go with the #6KT runners what would I use in place of the KL5.5H reduction guide like a 6L? what are the disadvantages of going larger on the runners than suggested? or would going to

I was given a Pflueger Trion GX model #PFGXSP 66 1M and it needs a but guide I am having trouble matching the wrapping thread it looks to be a cherry or bright red translucent or nocp type thread anybody out there done this type of repair or familiar with what brand or color of thread may have been used on these rods?....Thank You!

Thank you Norm for taking the time to figure this out, I did what you said and also a static guide placement casted nice in my yard epoxied it up sold it to a friend of mine and he loves it.. he said it cast as good as his name brand rods and just as sensitive, you're a smart man & I knew it could be done with a little help! at first I thought it was going to be a waste of my time….Thanks

You are right Tom I cannot use the complete 27 times method with the guides I am using I just used it for a choke point and butt guide sizing, my goal here is to do the best I can with what I got in front of me and that is a 20,12,& 8 reduction train set up, style, frame & type listed in my post, just asking how you people would go about setting theses guides in position and what you woul

I would like to know if anybody out there could please help me I have a 6'-6" light/medium color series rod I am trying to build from mud hole using performance Elite guides that came with it I used the 27 times layout to find my choke point I am using a Pflueger press20 reel O.D of the spool is 35.62mm & using 6 lb.braid, I would like to start out with a 20mm CRB Concept Style Spinning

How do you figure out where the first or the largest guide belongs from the reel seat and size of ring whether it is a spinning or casting rod I also know it depends on the reel being used I can find 3 or 4 different guide placements for any given rod length and everyone is at different length's from the reel seat I do load test my rods for guide placement before finishing so far I have not had

Thank's guys for the info but:according to the specs on the rod at Mud Hole it says the tip size of this rod is 5 would you still use #6 guides and #6 tip top?

I want to build myself a center pin rod I am purchasing from Mud Hole a MHXST1563..13 foot Steelhead blank and a HKS-7 Spinning Handle Kit - 18 1/8" in Length,could someone give me some advice on a good guide set I am thinking 13 spinning rod type guides? but what size guides? I will be using a Okuma Adventa VT1002 center pin reel on this build… Thank You!

I just made a custom checker board handle and fore grip with jigs I purchased from Mud Hole for my Ultra light rod build it turned out so good I want to protect it the best way I can so it stays looking good for years to come, so my question is what is the best way to do it? epoxy over the cork? rub it down with some kind of oil or just seal it with U-40 Cork sealer? I am thinking of epoxy,ideas
