It’s no secret that Pac Bay is having issues fulfilling orders. I’m not ready to give up on them yet. They’re trying and communication is still good. Hoping they can get back up and resume providing great products!

Just had Mike anodize 4 sets of guides for me. Did an awesome job!! My customer absolutely loves the look of the green frames. I was in a bit of a time crunch and Mike made it happen. Communication was great. Couldn’t be happier. I highly recommend this operation to anyone looking to “stand out from the crowd”! Brian

Hi Jeff I have these guides in stock. Only problem is, I’m in Canada. The postage will likely be about 10 bucks. The guides aren’t all that expensive though. Let me know if you want me to send them. Brian

For anyone reading this and wondering about foot pedals, I’ll share my experience. I build rods full time so my machine gets a workout! Several years ago, I got tired of going through two pedals a year. After a bit of research here, I decided to try the Foredom pedal. That was several years and over a thousand rods ago. Still working flawlessly! If you search Foredom foot pedal conversion, you sh

Bill, there's one method that I have used in extreme circumstances. Note that I have found ice to work pretty much all the time but upon further reflection, there was one rod that just would not come apart. Sounds like what you have. Here's what I did. I measured the male end of the ferrule with calipers and then selected a drill bit of equal diameter. I then drilled that diameter hole in a pi

As others have stated - Ice! Never had one I couldn't get apart by icing it. Be patient and keep it tightly packed.

As a 55 year old Canadian, I lived through our conversion back when I was in elementary school. All those years later, I still watch my weight in pounds, my height in feet / inches, my fuel economy in miles per gallon, and my football in yards (yes, even Canadian Football). My guide layouts are in inches, fly rods are in feet, fly lines measured in grains, and downrigger cannonballs in pounds. Red

Not sure if this counts as "breaking" a rod but it certainly counts as "dumb"! I had to ship a new rod out and needed a shipping tube. The only tube I had was about a foot longer than needed. To save some shipping costs, I took my hacksaw and shortened the tube. Only problem was, I forgot that there was already another rod inside the tube. Yes, cut right through both sections

Hi Tom I know that many will disagree with me but I always thin my first coat of Flexcoat High Build with acetone as John outlined above. This first coat is so thin it's like water. It saturates the thread and gives you a consistent color throughout. Additionally, you'll discover that there are WAY less bubbles generated in the final coat. It literally takes only a few minutes to apply with a

Hey Roger I get your concerns about using a regular lighter. But..... If you use it (by "it", I mean a Bic) in a certain way, there are no issues at all. Simply tilt the lighter 90 degree so that the yellow flame doesn't come into play. No soot. No problems. I don't build rods as a hobby - it's my livelihood. I've been using Bic lighters to pop bubbles and deal with little imperfection

Hi Adam. I'm also located in an area that is subject to power outages. I have a drying rack that often has 8 rods turning at the same time so you can imagine the havoc caused by an outage. I purchased a power bank that is designed for computers. It's made by "Minute Man" and is the "Entrust Series" ETR1500. It will run 8 drying motors for several hours. It also has an audible

My last hope is that someone here might have a stash of these discontinued Fuji guides. Would love to get about 80 pieces but will take any I can get. And yes, I've checked every supplier I could uncover. If anyone is looking for these BNLG's in size 6 or 20, I have lots. Brian

Bill, If the rod has a cork handle, here's a method I've used several times with great success. Carefully cut one cork ring off the blank at each end of the reel seat. You should now be able to slide the seat up or down 1/2". Clean the blank up with some light sandpaper wherever possible. I also try to clean the inside of the seat with a bit of folded sandpaper. Then apply paste epoxy (rod

I just finished converting my Pac Bay foot pedal over to a Foredom. Very noticeable difference! Loving it so far. If you decide to do this, here are the steps I did to convert this unit. 1) Obviously disconnect all power sources. 2) Cut the wire that goes to your old Pac Bay pedal right at the pedal. 3) Open up the new Foredom pedal. There's one phillips screw with a washer on the under

Hi Donald As others have stated, "A" will work just fine. I have tied dozens of tarpon rods using "A' thread without issue. You'll pull the guides off before you'll see failure in the thread! The biggest issue I have with tarpon rods is the thread damage that occurs from repeatedly sliding them in and out of the rod storage systems on flats boats. Especially with 4-piece rods wh

Hi Phil Yes, well aware of that. That is why I have not posted pictures or mentioned the manufacturer by name. I happen to have a long-term relationship with this particular manufacturer and was actually in the room when we approved this logo. LOL! It won't be a problem. Having said this, I would never reproduce any other manufacturer's logo without permission. Good advice! Brian

The only thing I'll add here is to ask where this rod is going to be used. If it's going to be used in a cold, Northern climate (Northern BC or AK) you may want to reconsider size 5's. They will ice-up very quickly. Here in BC, we fish salmon right through December and I can tell you that there's many times I've had issues with size 8's, let alone 5's.

A big thanks to Larry at "Custom Labeling System" for setting me up with a PearLabel 360! The unit arrived as advertised and on time. Super easy installation on my computer. I messed around a bit on my own and found that making simple "text only" labels was pretty easy and intuitive. I did hit a bit of a glich when I tried to import some images off the internet. A quick call d

I'm in need of a couple Fuji TKLAG8 (either "H" or "M" - doesn't matter) guides. These are discontinued and I'm short 2 for a set. I've checked all the sponsors and haven't had any luck so far. Anyone out there with a couple to spare?
