Kent - I'd really like to be educated regarding the automation process. In the process of making rods what do you suppose would be automated - handle glueing? wrapping guides on? finishing?

Kent please enlighten me - aren’t all rods handmade. If not what is the other process? Robots?

David - I do the "hidden" wraps all the time. Just do your wraps and put two coats of finish on them. Make sure the finish is fully cured then glue your grips on. Clean up the wraps real well after gluing.

Jarrod - I've built some kite rods. I used solid glass blanks, slick butt, Fuji seat, eva foregrip, one guide and tiptop. An Aftco swivel top would be a plus but expensive.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I'd like to know which manufacturers would void a warranty if the decal is not attached to the blank.

Hi Frank
When I begin a butt wrap I tape Popsicle sticks on the fore grip and just above where the wrap will end. I then wind masking tape sticky side out over both areas. After I'm finished with the wrap and the binding wraps are on I cut the built up tape and thread off by cutting lengthwise on the Popsicle sticks. This has to be done very carefully so that no damage is done to the rod.

Hi Russ
I used to use Resco myself. Now I use the Fasco epoxy glue and also their rod finish.

For anyone in the South Florida area there is a product from "Fasco" which is very similiar to Kardol.

Back in the early 70's before epoxy finishes were available, builders here in South Florida used Envirotex. It used to turn yellow and crack.
