Todd,
By the way would you have any recommendations for a 10ft casting rod for fishing salmon off the beach in Puget Sound.

Spencer,
The specs I found for the 1082 10-20 lbs ,10-46 grams fast, and the 992 8-17 lbs 7-21 grams X-FAST
Is that what they are?

Thanks for the reply. I want to build them as steelhead drift rods.I mistakenly thought the 1082 was a 10' rod that I wanted to build for salmon off the beach on puget sound. Still looking for something for that fishery.

I purchased some Lamiglas blanks awhile ago . I've searched there part # and they are a europeon blank, XSH 1082 MH MT and XSH 992 MT. They are marketed in Poland and Russia as certified pro. but they don't have the finish like my certified pros they are just a standard satin gray.
So I was thinking they are salmon / steelhead rods, I was wondering if anyone has heard or these or built on them.

7. Re: Flocking
I see what you mean. I didn't really think of them as soft, just as another alternative to the other options. I may try it just for kicks.
As to my other question about using permagloss over the clear coat on a painted blank. I understand that it will be more durable.
Never mind used the search and found what I was looking for, Thank for your input on the first ?

9. Flocking
I've read some things here of flocking cork and EVA . So my question is can you flock the foam grips like the ones used for carbon fiber or are they to pores?
I all so would like to know if a clear coat on a painted rod is good enough or should it be coated with permagloss?

11. Re: Old Fenwick
Roger,
Thanks for the input. I like the idea of down sizing, I do this with fly rods, the only problem is the tip is 3.2 mm and I couldn't find a 6 to fit.
I'm going to do a static test and see how it looks.

12. Old Fenwick
I have a Fenwick Fenglass SP1263F blank I want to use as a bobber/jig rod for salmon/steelhead.
From info Iv'e been able to find it is a spinning blank with lure rateing 1/4 to 5/8 , line rateing 8 to 15?
I'm thinking of using Fuji MNSG guides with a FST tip top size 8 and a 14" rear grip
I would like some insight for this old blank don't want to screw it up.
Spacing and guide size

14. Fly rod for bass
One manuf. has come out with a fly rod targeting bass. I have been using an 8 wt. 9' for severals yrs.for the same purpose.
I was interested because the rod in question is 7'11" throwing 230 to 350 gr. line. My question is could I build a similar rod
using a 8' medium action popping blank IP963F or XP963TC from Batson for this fly rod?
