Hi All,
Can anyone out there explain the differences between the generations of graphite? What is the difference between generation II graphite and generation III graphite? Thanks in advance.

As you move up the modulus scale (stiffness to weight ration) you have fibers that can potentially be used to make a more efficient fishing tool. For the same stiffness, they will be lighter and thus more sensitive, quicker to react to imparted energy, quicker to stop oscillating after the cast, less fatique on the angler.

As you move up the scale, you must also seek those fibers which also have a corresponding increase in strength (strain rate) which not all do. Most rod manufacturers have settled on fibers which give them higher numbers in both catagories.

See the posts below on IM6 and IM7 to get more of an idea on all this.

And do not place your blank selection process soley on which blank is made from the highest modulus fiber. Two blanks made from the same fiber can have vastly different action, power, strength, etc. There is more to the overal equation than just modulus. The actual design of the blank as well as the intended use should all play a role in your getting the best blank for your specific application.
