Using this system, is the guide at the 120 mark the intersect guide for the concept system or do you still have to do the table edge thing?

Also did I read correctly that this system only locates the upper guides and you still have to hand fit the first 2 or 3 butt guides?

Don's Equal Angle system and the New Guide Concept are two different things. On the NGC the intersection point is where the reel spool centerline path intersects the blank. A table edge is a convenient method for determining this. If you wish to somehow incorporate this with Don's system, you could put the intersect point on the 120 degree line (set-up point) and go from there on placing your guides on out to the tip. It may not be the optimum thing to do, however.

On the EA system, the plexiglas grid tool places the guides on the part of the rod that initially flexes during the cast. This is going to be the part of the rod forward of your set-up point. You still have to place the butt guides and how to do this was carefully laid out in the last issue of RodMaker.

I would be careful if trying to combine the two systems. There are lots of methods for plotting guide placement and best results are usually found by learning one method and sticking with it alone for any particular rod.

Personally I can set up a spinning rod so fast (2 minutes?) with the New Guide Concept system that I use it on all my spinning rods now. Others use the Equal Angle system for all their rods. You just have to find the one that suits your needs best.
