I would appreciate any suggestions, realizing that I have many options. I am making a 7' inshore casting rod. My average diameter where the diamonds will be placed over 9" of the butt length is 7/8". I want to keep square diamonds. I am using four axis, so the 7/8" would be halved for each diamond. Each diamond, therfore, would be about 1/2". I am going to put on an underwrap, and will use open diamonds. The question is: Does it seem that these will be too small or too large for the rod? Maybe the 9" length is too long. With that length, there will be 18 diamonds if they are 1/2" wide. I hope my math is right, but I am trying to find an appealing yet not too busy butt. Thanks,

The first thing that I would suggest is using the metric scale (milimeters) to layout the wrap as it is much easier and the amounts will not be about 1/2" inch. Instead they will be a much easier number to measure as well as more precise. In my opinion 9" is probably too long, but it is all to your preference. The only real way of knowing what looks god and what doesn't is to do it and find out. If you wrap it and don't like it, you can always cut it off and do it again. Besides, practice makes perfect. To square your diamonds, I believe you will need to take the circumference at the point of your wraps and take half that measurement to determine your spacing. Not the diameter. or did I miss something in your post?
