Polishing or buffing flex coat?

I have seen several short mentions of polishing flex coat. I was looking at a new Winston the other day and it sure looks like the wrap finish has been buffed with something. The gloss is a little duller than what I get from virgin flex coat and the finish was extremely smooth on all of the larger wraps.

Does anyone have any information on buffing and polishing wrap finish to share. Or is it just a "bad" idea to start with?

Bill
I use mothers california gold CARNAUBA car wax . it works great i use it on all my rod's . it makes all the wraps shine and also protects them from salt water, when i get home from fishing i just wash them off with the hose and all the salt comes right off . make sure that your final coat of flex coat has had time to dry before trying the wax.

Ditto on the Mothers and if you have a rod that's getting a little dull put it on the lathe and use the Mothers pre wax cleaner on the blank and flex coat, clean it off and apply wax and it will look like new.

Clemens Tackle sells a rod wax which probably is the same as Mothers, and leaves a nice finish to rod with a protective coating. Easy to use.

I use a good CARNAUBA wax. After I apply the wax to the rod I let it set for a couple hours then I put it on my lathe. while turning the rod at a high speed I use a nylon sock damped with Murphys oil and buff it to a high shine

You can use most any wax that doesn't have a cleaner in it. I like Birchwood Casey Gunstock Wax.

I don't recommend doing any kind of high speed turning or high speed buffing. You are taking a big chance on heating up the epoxy.

I agree with with Mike about the Birchwood Casey Gunstock Wax. It provides protection without a shine of its own, which makes it an excellent choice for rods with matte finishes. Some believe that the car waxes with UV inhibitors are preferable.
