Reel seat and handle bonding QUESTION

Ive read that it is a good idea to scuff the blank before applying, and I have much more confidence in my rods now. One question about that: Should I scuff in a rotary pattern, or up and down the blank? Does it matter? I also have read about scuffing the inside of reel seats, BUT... I just noticed that the Fuji reel seats I'm using have little ridges that run parallel to the blank. I take it that these keep the seat from spinning, even if the epoxy should partially let go. Is it still a good idea to scuff the inside of these seats? I assume that I should not scuff the ridges off. Should I use a scotchbrite pad or something else? Pull it through, or rotate it? Thanks again for the help! TH Re: Reel seat and handle bonding QUESTION

Clean then and scuff them. The seats are notorious for having some type of black residue inside them. Clean it out and then scuff the inside as best you can. If the seat is large enough you can wrap the SB around your finger and go at like that. Or, you can split the end of a dowel and insert the SB in there and spin it, even in a drill, as you pass it through the seat. The ridges in the Fuji seat were said to be put there to allow glue space, although like you I have also heard they are there to prevent spinning. I don't think they are truly necessary but you do not need to remove them. But your parts should fit closely. ................... Re: Reel seat and handle bonding QUESTION

Tom, Reel seat scuffed! Thanks for the info. The handle is curing now. This rod is for a close fishing friend, so I want it to be as durable as possible. Thanks again! TH Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
