I have heard the term acid wraps used here a couple of times. Does any body know what hi is I had never heard of it before. any info would be appreceated. Thanks Jim Gaskins

Acid wrap is another term for spiral wrap. The term originated on the Allcoast rodbuilding message board in reference to the twisted way the guides are aligned on spiral-wrapped rods: "Man, that wrapper must have been on acid when he wrapped that rod".

It's a left coast kinda thing, I guess.

who is the moderator on the AllCoast rod building forum, is the #1 proponent of Acid wrapped rods on the West Coast, where Spiral wrapped rods are getting to be the hot item in the saltwater/big fish domain. This is due to the fact that spiral wrapping a rod absolutely minimizes the rod twist under heavy load.

The spiral wrapped guru's on the AllCoast rodbuilding board are
J.AkuHed, rodblder, and Sangeroo, and their work is closely watched by AllCoasters who are interested in Acid rods. Sangeroo. is from the East Coast, but visits the West Coast frequently.

Hi guys, I'm the rodblder mentioned above(handle I use on Allcoast), Chef Jim(Akuhed) says a boat skipper saw his spiral wrapped rod on a fishing trip and mentioned that he must have been on acid when he wrapped it and the term has stuck with Jim being the foremost proponent of this technique.

I'm trying to catch up with about a dozen acid wraps in my quiver with more on the way. I fish them exclusively now with a 57# bluefin tuna being the largest I've caught to date on a rod wrapped the O'Quinn style. I think they work great and add a lot of fun on the sport boat trips I frequent with the comments comming fast and furious when they see the "weird wrapped rods" with the loose guides etc.

I'm sure the Chef man will see this post and add even more info
