I can't think of blank that has a more defined spine, so defined that they tell you where it is! Would you spiral wrap one or not? Aloha, Jim Re: Cape Fear:Spiral wrap or not?

You can Roberts (spiral) wrap any blank designed for a baicasting or revoleing reel Re: Cape Fear:Spiral wrap or not?

There's no reason not to spiral wrap that rod. Only by putting the guides on the bottom of the rod will you have perfect stability. ..................... Re: Cape Fear:Spiral wrap or not?

I think Jim's concern with the Cape Fear has to do with the "Hextek" construction. As each face is 60 degrees away from the next (hexagon in section), it would have to complete the transition in just 4 guides, 0, 60, 120, 180. By so defining where the guides have to be, it may not have the optimum placement that you'd get on a regular round blank. You may not notice it on a heavier blank but it may limit line flow and casting in a lighter model. Re: Cape Fear:Spiral wrap or not?

That is 100% correct - you locked in to where and how you will make that transition. However, that particular spacing is roughly what I have always used and it will work well. Plus, the fact that the HexTek is made from individual sections bonded together means that the spiral wrap will take any dangerous twisting tendencies out of the blank and hopefully increase its lifespan. I will not say that the HexTek design is necessarily damaged by a regular guide wrap, but all the pluses we know that the spiral wrap offers, it's a good method to try. You AllCoast fellows already know all about the advantages of the spiral wrap! The only question really is - just how a fish and how heavy a rod can it be used on. ..........................
