I don't want to start any fights between all the favorite suppliers but did want to know where to buy the best cork. I know it varies but have any of you found a place that sells really good cork? I cannot afford to buy more than maybe 100 rings at the time. If you'd rather not say here on this board please email me directly. Thanks.

Brian

The quality of available cork changes alot due to what gets harvested. Recently I have had trouble getting good looking cork. I thought about starting a cork garden in my back yard.... Well maybe not. The last time I ordered cork I was very pleased. I ordered it from Golden Witch. It was the most I have ever paid for cork. After I recieved it, I decided that it was worth it. I bought their top grade, A+. I think you can get it on their web sight. I have their catalog.

Over the last few years I have seen this to be somewhat of an issue. It seems the availability of quality cork is not what it used to be. And, suppliers rate their cork differently. What I might call a Flor grade, someone else would call extra-select and so on. I have ordered cork from three different vendors and recieved what I expected. My suggestion is call them, ask how they define their grading system, and ask that if you are unhappy with what you recieve, can you send it back. Find a supplier you like, then stick with them. I have found great value in using just one or two suppliers. A good supplier will develope a relationship with you and learn your expectations and preferences. I have to compliment Bob M. at Custom Tackle for providing an incredible service. I tell him what I want/need, he replies "gotcha" and many times will fills in all the components to my liking. I have to admitt, he got to know me by me calling and asking alot of annoying questions, but he was patient and "got me" what I wanted.
Final note, I have used just about every rod building supplier to the left at some point and have not been displeased with ANY of them. They all realize the importance of great customer service and suppling the inovators of the fishing industry (that's us) with the products they need. I just started using Custom and like calling "where everybody knows your name" as Cheers would state.
